I wasn't in Germany at that time, but I remember reading of the aftermath and my business had me with dealings in Europe. Reunification wasn't easy. Indeed, recall Alfred Herrhausen's murder at the hand of terrorists?

I agree, a slow-go approach has appeal. Many people I know who grew up under Soviet rule knew they were being lied to - there was enough Western leakage where they knew what was up. When the Wall fell, they were GENERALLY ready to have a go at a life that is free (but still hard). I don't think that's the case with the poor citizens of NK. Thus we need a plan for winning the peace. THAT is, in some ways, a tougher bridge to cross than how to get the horse's head into KJU's bed.

After reading Steyn, and he is brilliant. I cannot recommend his books highly enough - my husband and I are enormously grateful for the childhoods and times since then that we have had.

I daresay this glorious time in America will never happen again.

The full title of the book, in direct response to your comment about being in your fifth decade is "America Alone, the end of the world as we know it"

I have his next book "After America" but have not had the courage to begin reading it.

And believe me, the stats and resources he provides for his views are solid.

It would be excellent but if it could be done, why have we not done it sooner?

Fair point. I believe the answer is in recent stories about how the Obama Admin micromanaged military operations..,.I read of soldiers having to get WH clearance before take off, and being quizzed on the adequacy of the fuel levels. Thus, the Obama Admin basically made things too difficult to get anything done. If true, that would explain why this wasn't done recently.

Appeasement never works. This POS has been threatening us with nukes for a long time.

What is that makes people think he is just bragging? His actions, as many UN members pointed out yesterday, show that he is serious.

Behavior speaks more loudly than words, but in his case they are both in perfect alignment.

And much of the underlying discussion yesterday at the UN was about countries who defy sanctions and do business with NK will also be sanctioned.

I personally look forward to an America where nothing from China is for sale here.

93 percent of all fireworks used in the US are made in China.

Can be made elsewhere if necessary at about the same price or less.

So those you tube video makers constitute the majority of Seoul? I am curious as to this being like the woman who shot her baby daddy for you tube fame?
I highly doubt the entire seoul population is out torturing dogs. Sounds more like the ISIS slaughter of hundreds of military service dogs.

I suspect that the Administration is considering very severe restrictions on trade with China. Nikki’s message to China was clear: you cannot have unlimited trade with both the USA and North Korea. If China thinks we are serious about this, I think they will feel compelled to seriously consider changing their relations with North Korea. And if they do not, then at least sanctions might be good for US manufacturing. Win-win.

So the question is put to China. What do you value most. Hegemony or trade?

I think we do have the capacity to target all of the nork’s antiaircraft and artillery batteries.

A first strike must be launched while being largely successful at that targeting.

I also think SoKo is uniquely positioned & capable of assassination.

If US & China agree on a one korea policy it must depend on the entire Kim Jong Un dynasty being deposed.

That unified country must then vote on their own destiny separate from the US and from China.

“The clock's not just ticking anymore after yesterday's photo with Kim Jung Un stanging next to an apparent warhead.”

Is the “apparent warhead” real? How can you tell from a photograph?

You can't.

To the larger point. If China can't get NK under control, the U.S. will have to go it alone with SK in tow.

When war comes it will probably escalate until the U.S. can justifiably use tactical nuclear weapons. It is important this all occurs before NK has a deliverable nuke.

I would argue that the vacuum after the kim’s are deposed is so great and that the total ignorance of the North Korean population is so great the concept of selecting a new ruler is non existent.

If Kim is gone, a new government must be imposed from outside. As a practical reality, that government will be imposed by China.

No denying that China is the major player. I agree with you.

A 21-30 day festival with tens of thousands of dogs killed. Suffocated in bags. Boiled in large pots.

Do your own research. It’s called BokNal. The rare objector bothers me none. I also trust herd immunity.

NK is lucky to get a missile off the pad. They have no clue where its going to land. They have a bomb but there’s having a nuclear bomb and then there’s having one one small enough to strap onto a missile.

Its about a 1000 times more likely that the Iranians will hack down the NE power grid than the Norks will deliver a nuclear strike to Alaska.
