Trump considering ‘some pretty severe things’ in response to North Korea missile launch

WARSAW, Poland — President Donald Trump warned North Korea on Thursday that he’s considering “some pretty severe things” in response to the isolated nation’s unprecedented launch of a missile capable of reaching the U.S. He called on all nations to confront the North’s “very, very bad behavior.”

I'm no military expert, I just don't see any upside to taking action or NOT taking action against NK.

Clearly our intelligence community and military has grossly under-estimated NK's missile capabilities -- this last test clearly caught everyone by surprise. The clock's not just ticking anymore after yesterday's photo with Kim Jung Un stanging next to an apparent warhead. As soon as the Nork's figure out how to make a transport vehicle that will house the Nuke and survive re-entry my guess is they'll launch it at the United States, specifically Alaska which appears to be the range that missile has (then again, our intel services could grossly underestimate AGAIN the missile's capability and it could reach CA.)

We can't Nuke NK without severely impacting SK and pissing off China.

Not sure bunker busters, MOAB's or our other big ass bombs will get to it, and any military action we take is pretty much guaranteed to send the Nork's south to SK.

I don't see "winning" this one, I see the "least bad choice" here, am I wrong?

Can our intel services take out Kim Jung Un via assassination? Would that lessen tensions?

What do FR's smarter military strategy minded folks think here? Would be very interested to read your opinions.

That child has an ICBM that we and the rest of the world didn't know about and a nuclear warhead. As soon as he puts the two together and figures out how to get the warhead to survive re-entry he's gonna launch it.

No matter how this Korean situation works out,it’s gonna be ugly. A surprise attack on the Norks is the only way. Good luck on that considering that our “intelligence community” is a joke riddled with traitors. We have been told for years we have Navy ships that can down ballistic missiles in boost phase. Why are we not shooting these missiles down as soon as they clear N Korea ?

Tough choices to be made but they need to be explored. Expect possible embargo/blockade type actions as a warm up - and to get China to decide if she wants to singlehandedly brace up the maniacs.

Trade with China and our "official policy" on Taiwan will pop back up in the news, and if ultimately necessary, some serious firepower in a true shock and awe scenario may have to be employed to cause maximum damage and try to cripple their death throes attempt to kill others for vengeance - the South and Japan better be prepared to help stop missiles and the South will no doubt blow a lot of the barricade caches to block roads through the mountains to keep NORK artillery from coming down.

Lousy choices but reality sometimes dictates that they either be made or one can surrender to the bad guys.

I think it's pretty clear that China's not going to do anything until a missile actually heads towards the US, and by then it's going to be too late.

I've believed for years that NK is really doing China's bidding, China's propping up the NK regime and China would like nothing more than to see the USA get hit by a nuke, whether in Alaska or on our West Coast.

That will give China the opportunity to do what they want/need to do which is secure natural resources elsewhere in the world that it needs, without fear of US retaliation.

That's my belief/opinion of course and I could be completely wrong.

I wish I knew how much the North Korean people knew of their own situation. Do they know they are being treated like trash, or have they been brainwashed into thinking Dear Leader really is some kind of god. I’d like to think that if they had the opportunity the punk would end up hung at an Esso station like Mousalini.
