WASHINGTON A new video from the American Federation of Government Employees illustrates how Americans suffer when the government hands over our public services to for-profit corporations.
Governments job is to serve the public. Business job is to make a profit, the video says.
The video rhetorically asks why anyone should profit off of caring for our veterans, incarcerating criminals, protecting our parks, and ensuring the safety of our roads and bridges.
Your tax dollars already pay for these services, the video says. Why sell them off to profiteers who will cut corners?
AFGE, the largest union representing federal and D.C. government employees, produced the video in response to proposals by the Trump administration and lawmakers to privatize many key government programs and services.
Politicians often talk about wanting to run the government more like a business. But what that really means is handing over public services to private corporations, who will raise costs and lower services just to make a buck, AFGE President J. David Cox Sr. said.
The video ends by asking Americans to call their members of Congress and tell them not to sell off our public services.
Yeah, riiiight.
We can depend on the AFGE dorks to give us a good analysis of.......nothing.
Those of us who’ve worked with them (both when in the military and later as contractors) know that they are the bottom of the bottom.
The worst of the worst.
The quota-iest of the quotas.
They can shove their silly little wrong opinions up their collective Obamaholes.
There shouldn’t be government employee unions.
Son's Father's Day card went undelivered by the USPS until today, July 5, 2017! Finally arrived with 21 cents postage due!!!!
Son had made certain to mail it early just before he left his town on vacation for a week--but USPS made certain those loving efforts went unrecognized because the glitter on the card must have put the weight over its limit.
So much for the claims of these bozos.
Governments job is to serve the public. Business job is to make a profit, the video says.
Business job is to make a profit, by ACTUALLY serving the public.
Pure communist rhetoric, that is.
Entities like the AFGE certainly ought not exist.
By “communist rhetoric” I meant the ridiculous claim by the AFGE, of course.
Profiteers? Well, at least they deliver a service, not like you fat-assed, entitled jack-holes sucking at the government teat.
We got into a fight with these fat bureaucrat slobs back in 2009 during our Tea Party meeting they tried to crash. We discovered two things:
1) They sure can run fast for fat blobs.
2) They can whine real loud for cops to come rescue them when cornered.
No sale, this is all BS.
Profit means good service
Oh, you mean like how Sen. Manchin’s daughter’s company raised the price of epipens once the caring govt. passed a law requiring all schools to buy them? Is that how govt. “cares” for it’s citizens?
Union thugs make me sick.

Somebody’s profiting from the AFGE.
The infuriating thing to me isn’t that the AFGE isn’t much more than a big government protection racket, it’s that the AFGE can’t step back for even a moment to realize that it is at fault for government being so inefficient that privatization can deliver better services cheaper... and still make a profit on top of it. If government employees were delivering a product competitive with the private sector, there would be no market for profit from.
If you like this video ... then you’ll love Illinois, CA, CT, etc. unfunded pension apocalypse.
I’ll fix it.
“Goverment’s is job is to enrich itself. F*** the taxpayers.”
That’s better.
No, government's job is to secure Unalienable rights.
"Serving the public" is something that private entities tend to do best—not the government.
If the "service" in question is not a power exclusively granted to the government, it should always be private, and if a private entity can deliver a better "government" service—usually at a better price—then it should certainly be a considered in lieu of having it be a formal feature of government.
In America, we believe in minimal government, not government-as-nanny.
Some people just want government to grow and grow—and always with no accountability...
Corrupt businesses get prosecuted and shut down. Corrupt bureaucrats get raises and transfers. Enron and Global Crossing are no more, but the scandals with the IRS and VA just got some personnel shuffled around. That’s the difference.
AFGE by definition wants the biggest, baddest, most intrusive government possible. Many or most of the rest of us would like to see it reduced in size by two thirds or more and to get its nose out of things it has no business controlling.
