Christie, lawmakers at impasse as NJ state parks remain closed

TRENTON, N.J. -- The budget stalemate between Republican Gov. Chris Christie and the Democrat-controlled Legislature smoldered on Monday with the state government shut down and state parks closed to the public - but not to Christie and his family - as the Fourth of July approaches.

Christie, who spent part of Sunday lounging with his family at a beach in a state park he had ordered closed, said he would sign any budget lawmakers sent to him and blamed the shutdown of nonessential services, including motor vehicle offices, on Democratic Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto.

"I'm a little frustrated, quite frankly, at this point that no one will send me any budget," Christie said.

Except for he and his family of course. It’s good to be the governor.

We’ve seen this before, some democrat political scumbag closes parks and beaches in order to force a political decision towards his favor. Massengill!

Don't worry, it's government, it will actually cost more! How? Well, you see, first they will pass a greatly inflated budget, then the good governor will sign a bill that pays all the government workers for the closure days, even though they didn't work, and then the government workers will make a bunch of overtime and double-time doing all the work they were supposed to do during the shutdown. Meanwhile, they all get an extended 4th of July weekend.

It's a win for everybody! Except the taxpayer of course.

I have the same complaint as when Obama closed parks and monuments over a holiday. Fourth of July week, those that charge admission have their prime time for collecting admissions. Nearby businesses depend on holidays for revenue, and that generates taxes for the state. People plan vacations months ahead, relying on them being opened. Closing them just doesn’t make any sense, financially or in terms of good will.

I wonder how many of those in New Joisey sounded off and called 0bama ‘selfish and arrogant’ when he took EXTREMELY expensive vacations while the country was going to hell.

I’m not defending the Governor, nor am I criticizing him for some fun in the sun. But I’m sick of hearing the outrage at Republicans when everyone in the 0bama administration got a pass.

This is a perfect example of why Christie shouldn’t have been considered as a Republican nominee. Too corrupt.

Chris Christy will not be the Govenor much longer and his political career is over. Say what you will but he’s still linked to that highway closure and now the beached whale incident. He’s done. Hope he stole plenty of money.

Man I had thought Christie would have been perfect for the 2016 nominee. The man was bold and fearless and didn’t take crap from anyone. I still enjoy watching his beatdowns of snowflakes and the media in NJ.

Plan your vacation in Utah. The Parks never close because the State isn’t run by DemocRATs. We have more parks than any other State. Gas prices lower too.

I was in Utah last weekend for a family reunion. I have never seen Salt Lake City more beautiful, ditto for Utah County. Drove around the Alpine Loop, stopped at Sundance and then on over to Park City. I really can’t understand SLC being on the 50 worst cities list. Like nearly all of the Western States, Utah got a huge amount of rain last winter and it is as green as I have ever seen it. All the hotels are full, and they are building housing at a prodigious rate. I was told that the Point of the Mountain State Prison is being closed and moved out by the SLC Airport because the land it sits on is too valuable to continue to be used for a prison. Utah is a shining example of what good government can do. I was also surprised to see what has happened to the towns along I80 through Nevada too. And for the first time in my lifetime, northern Nevada is GREEN at this time of year.

I agree with them. Salt Lake City is horrible. Everyone stay away! Especially liberals. Move to Oregon or Washington instead.

You don’t respond well to “fake news”; despite the media slamming him 24/7 for “BridgeGate”, low-information people don’t understand 1) this was never connected to Christie, and 2) access to the bridge from one town (Fort Lee) was blocked - yet people constantly refer to “the bridge closing”. As for this budget issue, the Dem legislature couldn’t agree on a budget; the Dem senate president approved one, but the Dem assembly leader wouldn’t. Christie explained this all very clearly.

The ocean wasn’t closed in NJ; state parks were. It looks like we’ll have rain three out of the four days this weekend, but people who want to work less than four months of the year will blame Christie when they queue up for welfare...
