Imagine the tantrums the Dems and media will throw? In recent history Eisenhower got to pick five, Nixon and Reagan four each. Trump will likely get four to five over the next eight years. Hopefully another two during his first term.

Breyer is 79, but I’m pretty confident he will not retire - he’s too political.

Saw Breyer in D.C. in public a few weeks ago. I also knew him back in the '90s. He looked worn out. That made me happy.

OTOH, he's always been powered by bitterness and smug self-righteousness even before the SCOTUS appointment, so he'll probably cling on forever.

“But it is unlikely that Kennedy will remain on the court for the full four years of the Trump presidency.”

Um. Try eight years.

I looked in three different dictionaries. “Lead” is correct. The word “lede” did not appear in two of them, though the Oxford English Dictionary lists it as an obsolete variant of “lead”.

kennedy needs to be replaced, yes. but sotomeyer and ginsberg even more so, if that’s possible

let’s hope, pray they retire SOON so DJT can appoint some better, more judicial people to the court

“Lead” is correct.

Lead has been used "incorrectly" for so long that it has become "correct" over time.

That's how language works.

From my observation, eventually "there", "their", and "they're" will be a single word, and there will be no such thing as capitalization or punctuation.

It would be good.strategy to install younger solid Constitutional.conservative judges while the Republicans have the opportunity so that a.future Democrat socialist.cannot appoint replacements.

The first two are too young to retire, and Ruth Buzzi will probably croak on the bench and would rather risk doing so than leave a vacancy for Trump.

Serving on the Court is no longer a burden for RBG, as she's past the sleep barrier; the press is ok with her dozing off. All she has to do is hire leftist clerks and let the interest groups tell her what they should write.

Yes, language evolves. I don’t have to like all of the changes (such as what is happening to perfectly good third person plural pronouns), but the language will change nevertheless.

Democrats have flipped. Repuboican before and stolen a seat in the courts and selected not elected replacements in the Senate (all of which came into play for the Democrats super majority that passed Obamacare).

By hook or crook the rats will try to steal the Senate in 2019 again.

“Doesn’t the compost have any competent editors anymore?”

like most other failing enemedia outlets, copy editors are among the first to be let go as “non-essential”. NYT is the process right now of dumping at least half their copy editors from their “news” room. Once ALL the copy editors are gone, we’ll get to see just how illiterate most “reporters” really are.

I mean really, what difference does grammar, punctuation, and spelling matter if you’re just publishing made-up-shite in the first place?

“That will leave the left an opportunity to block until after the next presidential election.”

Only if the GOP loses the Senate next year; Supreme Court nominations now take only a simple majority to pass.

We trust DJT to make good appointments but we can’t count on the legislature to remain GOP. I worry.

RBG recently had pancreatic cancer and another cancer earlier in her life. She is a political cancer.

Kennedy and Ginsburg going. A double play.

Kennedy, Ginsburg, Stevens and Breyer going. A Home Run!

That would make every decision at least 7 - 2 on the conservative side.

Winning!
