Here's a walk-through of the background events that have led to this point.
Bernie Sanders met Jane O'Meara in 1981, when Sanders was still the mayor of Burlington, and the two were married in 1988.
In 2004, Mrs. Sanders took over as the president of Burlington College, a small liberal arts college that had a student body that normally floated around 200 students. Prior to that, she had served briefly as the acting president of her alma mater, Goddard College.
A real estate deal initiated during Mrs. Sanders' time at Burlington College is the crux of the problems and resulting investigation.
As the college had hoped to expand its enrollment upwards of 500 or even to 700 students, Sanders brokered a deal in 2010 to add 33 acres to the campus by purchasing a stretch of land along the waterfront of Burlington's Lake Champlain. The property was bought from the Roman Catholic diocese and also included some buildings used by the church.

This is a story that is barely covered in the msm.
If Bernie’s wife was Hillary she would have ordered a hit on the potential donor’s to collect the cash.
So Bernie is right, this is just petty fraud... :-)
The only part of the story is Trump is doing as political payback. Obama admin started this, not Trump.
Actually Politico did an extremely detailed, and damning, article about this a couple of weeks ago and basically broke the story.
Lean on his wife to get him to stand down and promise after she won it would be quietly dropped?
I could believe this. He's a 1st order swamp critter.
This college had a yearly budget of $4 million...and over a 6 year period half a million dollars went to: "The Vermont Woodworking School."
What is the "Vermont Woodworking School", you ask...whatever it is, its run by Bernie's step sister.
And of course his wife and daughter were on his campaign payroll
And of course this small college paid $68k to a Caribbean resort...run by Bernie's friend.

No wonder Bernie wanted to be president - for the same reason as Hillary - so that they could use the American taxpayers as their own personal cash cow.
Bernie said it is because of Trump he is being investigated.
The FBI has been investigating this for over a year.
Duh, Bernie.
