In 64 games with the Fireflies, Tebow batted .220 with three home runs and 23 RBIs, with .336 slugging and a .648 on-base percentage.
If that .648 on-base percentage is accurate, it's phenomenal. It's like he gets a walk 2 out of 5 appearances at the place. What gives?
Mis-print maybe? I’m guess that .648 number shown was his OPS stat, not his slugging stat.
They fear his ability to hit it over the fence. Mickey Mantel was probably the most walked person in baseball. They would rather he get to first base on walks as opposed to bring in a couple of runners via a home run.
“.336 slugging”
Pretty weak ...well below major league average.
Are you sure it is not his OPS Rating (On Base plus Slugging)? If it is OPS, he is below average.
Classification OPS Range
A Great .9000 and Higher
B Very Good .8333 to .8999
C Above Average .7667 to .8333
D Average .7000 to .7666
E Below Average .6334 to .6999
F Poor .5667 to .6333
G Very Poor .5666 and Lower
BTW, I am a Tebow fan, but his OPS (if it is that) may indicate that we still isn’t ready for the Big League yet.
It’s OPS,which is not on-base percentage. His overall on-base percentage is .326 which is not good. I hope he does well and he’s started out hot at St. Lucie.
