Defense Secretary James Mattis decided Friday to delay for six months a plan that would allow transgender people to enlist in the military, The Associated Press reported.
In a memo, Mattis reportedly said that the six months would allow military leaders to ensure that the policy change will not disrupt the preparedness of the country's military forces.
The Army and Air Force had previously asked the Defense Department for a two-year wait period before transgender individuals are allowed to enlist.
Transgender people already serving in the military are currently allowed to do so openly, but no new recruits have been permitted to join.
Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter lifted a longtime ban barring transgender people from serving in the military last year. At the time, he set a July 1, 2017 deadline for the military to allow transgender individuals to begin enlisting.
While that decision means that current service members cannot be discharged from the military for openly being transgender, it also put a hold on recent college graduates and others from beginning their service.
A group of 16 House Democrats had sent a letter to Mattis on Friday urging him not to delay accepting transgender recruits in the military ahead of the Saturday deadline.

These people are psychologically unfit for service as well as security threats as Bradley Manning has already proven.
Back during the Viet Nam war, when I was going through basic training at Fort Ord, we had a gay black guy in our unit that would go after all the guys who were straight while we were all in the gang showers. We all complained to the CO and because he was also black...nothing happened...sound familiar?

I have actually started contacting every senator on the Senate Armed Services Committee and on those on the House Armed Services Committee too. This is not the same as DADT being repealed. What they are plotting to do is eventually force me to order young men and women to lie. To look at a man and say she is a woman. We are planning to sell out all truth on the altar of political correctness because .03% of society has a problem with how they view themselves and are demanding we lie about it.
I will not obey. I am 27 years active duty still serving and I will NOT lie like this....I will not tolerate a single person above or below me suggesting that I am to embrace a scientifically provable falsehood so some a$$hat liberal can feel good about a lie they want told.
This is one of the strangest things the Democrats have pushed forward. Crossdressers in the military. Unbelievable.
