This kind of rhetoric drives me nuts. In health care, indeed, in any human endeavor, you can always spend more. Take firefighting, for instance. We have firehouses spread across a municipality. Now, you could always build more. You could double the number. You could put a firehouse on every corner, if you want. And, the added investment would, in all probability, save some lives. But reasonable community leaders realize that there are many needs to address, education, police, hospitals, sewers, etc., so they make tough decisions. So it is with health care. How much do we spend? A trillion dollars? Ten trillion? Do we bankrupt Western Civilization? Sometimes hard choices have to be made. It’s called leadership.
