Turkish Onslaught on Kurdish SDF Dies Down Without the US Lifting a Finger >more

The massive Turkish bombardment of Kurdish-held north-western Syria we reported yesterday has died down now. How did that happen? The Turkish and American defense ministers met in Brussels ahead of a scheduled NATO meeting, but there was no indication this had anything to do with it. Perhaps it was the other way around and the Turks scheduled the bombardment ahead of the meeting precisely to keep their grievances on the agenda in Brussels.

In any case, it was also reported yesterday that Russians had evacuated their base in Kurdish-held Afrin enclave, perhaps to give the Turks a free hand against the Kurds, but this has been debunked. The Russians are still in their Kafr Jana base. In fact Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister complained yesterday the Russian base was a problem for Turkey:

“The problem in the region is Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) control over Afrin and the establishment of a Russian base there.”

Another thing which did not happen was any sort attack by US military against Turkish and Turkish-backed forces. You will recall that when the US shot down a Syrian Su-22 over Syria on June 18th the Americans cited "collective self-defense of partnered forces" as the reason they had to do so. Allegedly the Su-22 "dropped bombs near" the Kurdish SDF and so the Americans "immediately" shot it down.

I have never read this source before. It does seem more reasonable than the typical Russian Times articles.

Lets hope Erdogan the Islamist will think about the next attack he makes on Syrian Kurds.

Inspite of the propaganda Turkey is putting out through the previous leader's lies.

Turkey is not long for NATO unless he backs away. If he does it will only be temporary. Erdogan the Islamist is what he is.

I must comment: The US did not "immediately" shoot down the SU-22.

There are certain groups designated to be wiped out:

Armenians, Jews, Kurds, Yazidis, and now Christians in general.

Trump, halfwit Tillerson, the US State Department, Obama, Soros, Hillary, Kerry and and Tillerson’s attempted pick as his assistant, Anne Patterson

all want Assad removed.

WHERE WILL THAT LEAVE Syrian Armenians, Yazidis and Christians?

Afraid so.

But that is apparently of no interest to Trump, Tillerson and company.

First, I think the Kurds understand your point. They have lived with him. Alawites are almost like Alevi’s, tacit Muslim. Assad has survived by allowing other non typical Muslims and Christians, etc to support him so they survive.

BUT, Assad is not one of the good guys. He and his crowd treat everyone else like surfs. Alawites are 10% of Syria, and get all the government positions and military power. They are allied to Iran. Very bad situation. Iran forces are the majority of his military now. If Assad goes, Iran will grab all they can. Assad cannot put this back together without the Kurds.

I know about Tillerson’s initial selection of Anne Patterson. I know about Ann Patterson, have Egyptian friends who would not treat her well if she was in Egypt. Other than that, Tillerson has some very good knowledge of the Middle East. Tillerson DID NOT travel in the gilded circles of Diplomats. He probably did not know anything about Patterson. (I did, I saw her picture with not nice things said about her)

And, neither Trump, Tillerson, Mattis created this mess. Obama and Hillary and bought congressmen did this. Trump and our Kurd allies (& affiliated troops) are doing a great job of eliminating ISIS. This bothers the Jihadi supporters like Erdogan, but he want to kill Kurds regardless.

So here we are.

You sell the Kurd short. And I don’t see the US throwing the Kurds to the wolves. Besides, if armed and given air cover they are a hell of a fighting force. And they are motivated.

I don’t sell the Kurds short.

But they are obviously designated to be eliminated

based on a perfectly visible track record of many years,

including what the first president Bush did to them at the end of the first Iraq war.

I know what happened in Iraq.

But we are still in Iraq. And ISIS is about to end in Iraq and Syria.

The past does not predict the future.

Kurds are fully aware of what is around them. They are not dummies.

And I believe that both the US and Russia want to protect them. Each for their own reasons. And the Odd Couple, Israel and SA both want the Kurds for neighbors.

There real enemies? Iran, Turkey, Terrorist groups.
