[BERLIN] The mood among German consumers rose to its highest level in almost 16 years heading into July, a survey showed on Thursday, supporting expectations that private consumption will contribute strongly to growth this year.
The consumer sentiment indicator, published by the Nuremberg-based GfK institute and based on a survey of around 2,000 Germans, rose to 10.6 going into July, the highest level since October 2001.
A Reuters poll had expected an unchanged reading of 10.4, from last month, also a near 16-year high.
GfK linked the high reading to income expectations reaching their highest level since reunification in 1990 as Germany's robust labour market continues to fuel consumption and growth.

but but but Germany is collapsing in a misima of lawless chaos, no
go zones, mass rape, and a sinister dark stealth invasion by a super clever secret army.
at least that’s what I read on the internet.
I been told that I am hiding under my bed.
(Actually I am hiding from a hail storm right now.)
What about the “females feeling safe a night” morale indicator?
The level of crime is so low that one incident is national headline news for days.
One can therefore make wrong conclusions about safety.
My observations ( I travel often to Southern Germany ) is the perceived level of safety is the same as it ever was.
I don’t see as many topless women sunbathers in city parks as a decade ago, but my german colleagues tell me it’s because the younger women are all upright career obsessed ‘prudes’ not because of safety concerns.
Regarding your link: I am highly suspicious whenever I see an article about “right-wing” extremists, since I have never seen a bona-ride example of such.
Indeed, the article at your link proved my suspicion correct once again: the second paragraph from the bottom states: “Apprehending right-wing extremists in Germany can be particularly difficult, several experts argued, because of strict anti-Nazi laws that push them into the shadows.”
In other words, the extremism is not coming from the right: it is coming from the remnants of Germany’s own home-grown brand of socialism. To put it another way, it is left-wing extremism on the rise.
Typical journalistic malpractice, again.
Perverts.
Sick minded perverts, increasing numbers made that way by porn on the internet has created a much different atmosphere for women.
I see these sick perverts everywhere, leering at females.
Not following you there.
Wanted criminals have made themselves difficult to apprehend. That is not uncommon and unworthy of a conspiratorial twist.
are these homegrown pervs or immigrant pervs in Berlin ?
Where I travel in Southern Germany, the local gals dress modestly or in business outfits so there ain’t much to leer at.
For example, we were on the train a month ago when a German boy age 14 sat directly across my 7 year old daughter and leered at her non stop even when I leaned across his view to ask my wife if she thought this pervert was dangerous.
We got off the next stop and my daughter said she thought that boy liked her. I informed her that boy was a sick minded pervert made that way by looking for long hours at naked pictures on the internet and to be careful about such strange behavior in the future.
Sad that all you want is a train ride with your family and walk away having such a needed conversation.
Consumption is up because of free money given to invaders - quantum easing of a sort.
There is always a tendency for economic energy to gather in one spot; the USA gets the benefit when the global economy is suffering; think “the last refuge”. Germany is that locus relative to the European Community, and somewhat for the world. That is why it is doing well. The countries around Germany are a disaster by any forecast measure, as is pretty much the entire world. Germany is floating on the past. Europe is dying. The World is dying.
Hey! Lets all sell the copper off our rooves and throw a party!
Any one here own a VW?
