It looks like the plane was still parked at the gate, so maybe the engines had not been started yet.
If the engines were on, the coins would damage the turbines causing the plane to be taken out of service.
How did this dope get so close to the plane ?
At some airports you still walk out to the aircraft and climb stairs to board.
