The greatest accomplishment of my child’s academic career in public schools in Iowa (schools better than most) was to make his elementary school teacher cry during a parent-teacher meeting. It had some resemblance to a Jack Nicholson “you can’t handle the truth” moment.

All I did was read back a few notes from observations i had made in her own class, where the over-riding mission was to kill the spirit of all young boys by medicating them. Hello Ritalin.

I resisted and turned into somewhat of a pariah, but the happy end was that the kid turned out ok.

My son’s third grade teacher tried to tell us that our son had learning problems too. These idiot teachers just don’t like to deal with boys. Boys are naturally more wiggly and active. It doesn’t mean they have learning problems. The teachers just want them all drugged so they don’t have to deal with it. In my day, the boys got a paddle or sent to the principal if they couldn’t behave in class. Once that went out the window, all hell broke loose.
