Former Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin filed a lawsuit against the New York Times Tuesday over an editorial that tied her to the January 2011 shooting of an Arizona congresswoman.
Palin's attorneys claim that the paper defamed her in the June 14 editorial, published hours after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot and wounded while practicing with the GOP's baseball team in Alexandria, Va.
The editorial, attributed to the Times' editorial board and titled "America's Lethal Politics," initially linked Palin's rhetoric to the shooting that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The paper posted a correction the next day admitting that "no such link was established."
The editorial also claimed, incorrectly, that a now-infamous ad from Palin's political action committee put "Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs[sic]." The Times also corrected that statement, admitting that the crosshairs on the map targeted "electoral districts, not individual Democratic lawmakers."
"The Times used its false assertion about Mrs. Palin as an artifice to exploit the [Scalise] shooting," Palin's attorneys stated in the suit.

“Good” indeed. Now the “Fake News Media” (FNM) needs to learn that the “Crosshairs” that were on Palin’s campaign literature are acutally “benchmark” symbols which can be found on topographical maps. One slight difference, however, is the diagonal quadrants of the mark are usually alternating black and white. But still, the FNM wanted to blame Palin anyway.
Haven't we seen this pattern before? Print lies and smears and then the next day issue a small, tiny correction.
I hope the court really takes them to task, and it costs them big to play this type of sleazy game.
If this isn’t “Actual Malice” then I don’t know what is
And in any event, the legal standard for defamation ought to be lower. For the Slimes to do this, should be actionable defamation in anyone’s book
I think the NYT is going to need to settle this thing because of this fact.
Wonderful. I hope she wins.
Proof, as in what happened to CNN when a recording surfaced of a CNN bigshot producer bragging that their fake news on President Trump was BS and fake. Hope Palin is able to achieve a big settlement from NYT for what they did to her.
Good for her. They will have to spend money fighting it or to settle. If nothing else, money for attorneys Nd a distraction from their fake news.
Sue, Sarah, Sue!!!
TWB
I really hope she can dish out some misery to that group of snakes.
She has the same attorneys that Hulk Hogan had when he sued and bankrupted Gawker for Defamation/Libel. These guys are serious and know what they’re doing.
Go for the throat, Sarah.
Should have sued the NY Times in a different state.
A person can sue in any state where the paper is published. If it is published online, that’s pretty much any state. And you can buy a paper edition at any large airport in the country.
This “crosshairs” accusation is an old canard. It was defamatory from the start. That should help the plaintiff.
Wow—wonder if Thiel is involved?
Go for it, Sarah. Squeeze them by the balls until they cough up BIG CASH!
Palin’s NYC filing calls for a jury trial decision, but by judge or jury, how fair to Sarah Palin will a NY jury pool or a NYC judge be?
Vlad Putin should sue some media in this country for all the nasty half truths and untruths about him and Donald Trump published in this country.
Sarah if you are lurking, you go girl! And when you get through with them I just might subscribe to The Wallisa Times! Lol!
Exactly. The lie on page one above the fold; the retraction on page 46 at the bottom.
