Nasty!! This thing seems pretty huge.....
It’s the first one where they’ve figured out how to infect network drives and thereby infect the whole company from one dumb shit falling for a phishing email.
Petya ransomware?
Merck Inc has likely been affected by today’s malware ransomware attack called: Ethernalblue Petya (related to last month’s wannacry ransomware).
I posted this as VirusTotal admin site news broke:

malwarebytes article on Petya/Mischa:
Billion dollar global company whose network is infected by a line of code probably started by some kid in a basement.
Billion dollar company probably with an IT staff stuffed with Indians and Pakistanis who got hired on the strength of qualifications skills and experience they don’t actually have.
I wouldn’t want to be them. Management update calls every few hours around the clock for updates. If you are on-call you are hosed for the foreseeable future.
Yeah. It’s so funny. Cheating on tests is a pandemic disease in India. Damn few of their grads graduate honestly. These companies who hire cheap H1 Indian engineers get what they deserve.
Tell Merck to just take a pill and chill.
“by a line of code probably started by some kid in a basement”
By ‘some kid’, you mean the CIA and by ‘a basement’, you mean Northern Syria. Oh, wait, this is hacking. RUSSIANS DID IT!
Are they telling us they can’t find these criminals?
When they are interviewed via phone, the guy answering all the interviewer’s questions, is not the person you are hiring...
I’m curious if this computer hack involves not just office computers, but lab related information, i.e..mixing of meds.
