Questions Democrats are never asked on health care
American Thinker ^ | 06/27/2017 | Jack Hellner

Posted on 06/27/2017 8:38:41 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Here are a few questions on Obamacare and the upcoming replacement that reporters don't seem willing to ask – and therefore Democrats don't have to answer:

  1. If increased Medicaid spending is the solution to the opioid addiction crisis, why have the addiction and death rates gone up despite already massive increases in Medicaid?  Doesn't that show a negative correlation between increased spending and reductions in addiction?
  2. It is a fact that Medicaid spending is not being cut in the replacement bill, only the projected increase, set earlier.  It seems that liberals, including reporters, need a remedial math lesson.  If a person gets a 10% raise one year and a 5% raise the next, he did not take a cut in pay.  If he gains ten pounds one year and gain five the next, he did not lose weight.  That is all that is happening to Medicaid.
  3. Why did life expectancy unexpectedly decline after Obamacare kicked in 2010 when it was going up before?  Wasn't the more than 2,000-page bill, with massive mandates, increased taxes, and added regulations, supposed to improve life expectancy?
  4. When Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and others say the Republican replacement to Obamacare is going to cause thousands, if not millions, of deaths, why don't the media point out that the death rate actually went up after Democrats passed their draconian bill?

It would be helpful if the media had an ounce of curiosity and reported facts instead of basically regurgitating Democrat talking points that push an agenda.

Nobody is talking about what kind of health insurance policies might be available again without the 0bamacare mandates. Also, what is happening with health savings accounts? It would be better for a younger person in good health to have a catastrophic health plan and save some money in a health savings account instead of paying through the nose for an 0babmacare approved plan.

American Medical care AND the American Health Insurance industry right into the $hiter.

Just like everything the government reigns control over.

They have it on their plate and will spin it around for decades now before they decide they dont want to let us have it back.

... instead of paying through the nose for an 0babmacare approved plan.

That's the point of having one big pool of money, to take from those that are smart and/or inclined enough to stay healthy so that the less smart voter can get free or cheap insurance.

Never mind the lack of incentives to try to lead healthier lifestyles.

“If increased Medicaid spending is the solution to the opioid addiction crisis, why have the addiction and death rates gone up despite already massive increases in Medicaid? Doesn’t that show a negative correlation between increased spending and reductions in addiction?”

The problem “opiate addiction [via heroin use]” has grown faster than even Medicaid spending.

The leading chemical ways to treat opiate addiction are buprenorphine/naloxone combinations and methadone.

Methadone is used when the patient needs to have pain relief as well as a maintenance opiate.

They are both long-term treatments.

People can be tapered off an addiction using methadone.

Singapore believes in cold-turkey withdrawal so addicts know that while extremely unpleasant, cold-turkey withdrawal is possible.

Buprenorphine/naloxone combinations must be prescribed and renewed by doctors who have short, specialized training.

These doctors like to charge about $250 for the first visit and $100 for each monthly prescription renewal.

Given these fees, they don’t like to take low-paying Medicaid.

What I suggest is that all doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants should be allowed to renew a buprenorphine/naloxone prescription. That will lower the demand for the specialized prescribers so they might cut their initial fee from $250 to $200, a sum more affordable for families of addicted people.

The crackdown on oxycodone “pill mills” in Florida and elsewhere has cost probably over 200,000 lives as it changed the most common opiates from a FDA quality controlled products to who knows what’s in it street dealer stuff.

“It is a fact that Medicaid spending is not being cut in the replacement bill, only the projected increase, set earlier.”

The language should have been made clearer in the replacement bill.

Perhaps: In the years after 2017, the annual increase in the total amount paid to any state by the federal government shall not exceed 3%.

If a reporter sees the word cut or reduced he will be an easy mark for Democratic demagoguery.

Medicaid funding reform should only be attempted after the individual market legislation has been signed into law by Trump.

Bill 1. get rid of the individual fines and coverage mandates
Bill 2. get rid of the employer fines so employers can expand while the economy will support job creation
Bill 3. Medicaid reforms

I think that Health Savings Accounts are THE STUPIDEST THING ON THE PLANET.

You give some money to the government (to ‘hold it’ for you *wink wink*)

Then, if you have a health expense, you ask for some of it back.

If you don’t use all of it, they get to keep it.

They set up a massive bureaucracy to watch ‘manage’ this program and process all the paperwork (and deny you anything you request just because they are a pissed- off government mindless bureaucrat troll who takes pleasure in bringing others misery)

They should JUST MAKE ALL MEDICAL EXPENSES TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.

Aspirin? Kotex? Bandaids? Deduct them all. And no sales tax on these items too.

A Health Savings Account should belong to you, just like an IRA. If you want to take the money out but not for medical expenses, then they could tax it.

Just make all items tax deductible. No reason to stick money into a special account

You’d be better off buying insurance in one of those health care co-ops Hannity has been talking about- $50 a month, 100% free medical care.
