I bought a new BMW 2002 in December of 1970 a day after we docked in SDiego after a WestPac. Hardly anybody had one in the US back then. Nowadays, there are more of them on the road in the Baltimore metro area than Cadillacs and they seem to be the preferred conveyance for the black people. I see them parked in driveways of neighborhoods in which the row houses are on average worth less than some of the BMWs parked in the driveways and parking pads. It’s the montly payment that so attractive.

I have never owned one of their cars but have two of their bikes. The older one is close to 160K. Aside from routine maintenance I have only had to replace a front master cylinder and a voltage regulator.
The BMW plant is about 30 miles from me. It’s amazing how many B-mers are on the roads around here. The employees get a great lease deal on then.
I believe BMW makes all of their SUVs in SC, including the M- hot rod versions. Surprisingly, the majority of SC BMW production is exported!
BMW also has a Performance Driving School in South Carolina. Transportation, a short course and tour comes with a new BMW if delivery is taken at Spartanburg.
