That was the thing that stood out for me. There was no pedestrian traffic for quite some time until these two guys walked into the scene. And this was only 8:30 PM.
Unless you know the area well, any areas that don’t have women, children, or pedestrian traffic should be avoided.
I had a woman and her son visit from Finland some years ago, and I took her and her son to a Bruins game in Boston. After the game, we walked over to the North End for some coffee and pastry.
They were petrified. There was no street traffic, and the buildings are what a european would see in a movie about American street violence, large brick warehouses, etc.
I explained to her that this was the North End, and even though it looked scary, it was one of the safer places to walk around in Boston. I explained it was because it was a big mob haven, and they didn’t like outsiders coming in and causing trouble...if you did, they usually made an example of you.
She was too uncomfortable, so I agreed to turn around. Such is the power of the cinema!
