Unemployment among black Americans ages 16 years and over fell to 7.5 percent in May, its lowest level since December 2000.
Black unemployment has been on the decline since February falling from (February) 8.1, (March) 8.0, (April) 7.9, and (May) 7.5 percent, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The national unemployment rate in May was 4.3 percent, its lowest level since May 2001.
Unemployment for black Americans has historically hovered below their white counterparts. The Great Recession drove black unemployment near Great Depression-era levels, reaching 16.8 percent in March 2010. While most Americans were feeling the negative affects of the housing crisis, it was black lawmakers who were beginning to publicly blame President Obama for black Americas morass.
In August 2011, Congresswoman Maxine Waters called the black unemployment rate unconscionable.
A month later, Waters hammered President Obama for failing to acknowledge the economic disaster in the African American community while addressing his jobs agenda in the battleground state of Iowa.
Days later, then-Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver told reporters, If Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House.

President Trump will oversee a rise in prosperity for black Americans. He has also begun an apprenticeship program which will greatly benefit skilled trades and unions.
These are the sorts of things which rip away the foundations of the Democrats.
Soon they will only have journalists and angry college students voting for them.
Not even Trump believes those numbers.
Dhimmicraps will do everything in their power to change that.
BINGO! Death of the RAT party, which explains the open-border-at-all-cost mentality.
I kind of wish one of his first acts as president was to fix all of the fake statistics.
Are they employed by the private sector? If not than no winning.
And as if they’ll vote for DJT in 2020 regardless of their job situation and how it improves.
I wonder when we can transition back to honest reporting of unemployment numbers?
You are such a wet blanket, Snarky Tart!
Many blacks did, in fact, turn out for Trump last November and many more will as the economy improves. The RAT grasp on the black vote is coming to an end thanks to Donald J. Trump.
You must be a NeverTrumper.
I just hope the people in the inner city are aware of it.
Good point. It certainly won’t be reported by the MSM. That’s why this story was found on Breitbart and no where else.
Yes, and retroactively, too. It would be nice to see what the scoreboard really said.
You know Karl, you’re right. When this media skews numbers in your direction, best to take quiet advantage of it though.
I want Trump to make a pronounced promotion of jobs in Black communities.
Those folks need help whether they vote for us or not.
We both know the self-caused problems. We need to find a way to lend a hand up to those who are interested.
The next best thing to voting for DJT is to not vote all. A major reason Trump took Michigan is that large swathes of Detroit didn't come out to vote. Brotha Barakh wasn't on the ballot and Trump made some initiatives toward blacks including attending a church in Detroit and asking them to take a chance with a Republican and promising to fix inner cities.. and enough blacks stayed home to give MI to Trump. If Trump touts black employment numbers for 2020 the same scenario could replay..or maybe they could even come out to vote for him.
I hadn’t even noticed the reporting agency. Thanks for the mention.
sad but true.
The important thing is that those numbers (as dishonest as they may be) are calculated using the same metrics as the Obama Administration was using to try to get favorable statistics out of (and more or less failing at). It’s a direct apples to apples comparison; while it not be objectively accurate, it is a good subjective measure to compare the Trump administration’s effect vice Obama.
I think it would be better if they just went back and adjusted the numbers to reality. Trump takes no hit that way.
Actually, should he do that he *will* take a huge hit. Unemployment numbers will skyrocket if they go back to the older, more ‘honest’ metrics. Why hand his enemies that stick to beat him with?
