The GOPs new health bill would mean Nevada cannot afford to maintain coverage for the 210,000 residents insured under Medicaid expansion, Gov. Brian Sandoval says.
The governor and Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., spoke against the bill during a Friday news conference in Las Vegas. Heller said he couldnt support the bill in its current form.
. . . .
I want to make sure that we prop up Medicaid to the degree that the federal government has given in the past and that has become an expectation for the state of Nevada, Heller said.
. . . .
There isnt anything in this piece of legislation that will lower premiums, Heller said.

Heller is the only GOP incumbent who's up for re-election in a state Clinton carried. It may be hard to bring him around on any health care bill if all he can think of is what the attack ads will look like.
I've been saying for months that the GOP is wasting its time if it doesn't produce a bill that results in lower premiums in 2018 when these renewals come out in late 2017.
I don’t see what the way forward is on this. By my count that’s at least 6 votes against it, not even counting what McLame and Linda will probably do yet.
This is a perfect example of the rot that is the Republican party.
Republicans control the Presidency, the Senate, the House, and most state governors and legislatures. They can’t blame Democrats when it’s Republicans fulfilling the Democrat agenda.
There was a lot of fraud in Nevada last year during the presidential election.
One member of the state legislature in Carson City said he found ballots in his district that were in the names of celebrities, both living and dead.
Some of the “registered” voters had addresses that were vacant lots.
I forget the name of the legislator, but he said there were “thousands” of suspicious ballots in his district alone.
It's a problem with a population that loves ObamaCare but just doesn't want to pay for it.
I want to make sure that we prop up Medicaid to the degree that the federal government has given in the past...
What a conservative! :)
A Republican governor and a Republican senator are the ones complaining.
Heller should run for Gov. and let someone else lose the seat. I’d rather lose it MY WAY. National Republicans will pour resources in to save him, a waste. As Gov. we could PRETEND he’s an adult.
I understand that. They’re Republicans in a state that Hillary Clinton won. I’m sure they know their electorate better than I do.
Then they had better raise the taxes in Nevada. I pray that Trump won’t make the whole nation pay for the Medicaid expansion in the states that succumbed to the temptation of FREE FED DOLLARS.
Can’t slow down the gravy train or he might have to actually get a job. What a Marxist loser.
Do you really think Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul are the kind who would "STFU and vote for it"?
When did the government ever control the premiums?
Well, if there’s one thing you can say about Pelosi and Schumer, it’s their control over their Reps and Senators. Can you imagine ANY of the Dems, when they had the WH, the House and the Senate, going against Obama, Reid, Schumer or Pelosi??? They would be cast out on their ears! NO MONEY FOR YOU! The Republicans would do well to present a united front and squabble in private.
Rather than complain they should keep their mouths shut, at a minimum.
Two of my least favorite Nevada politicians.
Isn't it funny how the conservatives are always the ones told to STFU? How about reminding the rinos that repealing Obamacare got them elected so they should STFU up and vote. Socialism isn't always the right answer.
Exactly right. It’s all about unaffordable premiums. If the bill doesn’t significantly reduce premiums by the time open enrollment rolls around in the Fall, what good is it? Why bother?
