Title and link only, due to restrictions.
Essentially about the crummy contracts certain truckers submit to. Many of these issues arise from CA's CARB law that essentially banned all trucks older than 2015 forcing drivers and industries to spend mega bucks on new equipment and updating equipment. A classic case of what Bastiat call the seen and the unseen and a good example of Leonard Read's, "I Pencil," in practice.

A big part of the article can be paraphrased as: awww poor immigrants who don’t speak English are getting abused by big mean companies. I see it as a good chance for President Trump to rescue them. Find all these poor immigrants who don’t speak English. The ones who are legal, defend them from abuse. The ones who are illegal, deport them and bar them from ever returning. I have a good guess on which category will include 99% or more of “immigrants”.
I even suspect this is why business leaders like the immigration stats quo. They like abusing illegals. I’m too compassionate for that - deport illegals, treat legals correctly, and let Congress set the rate of immigration and the requirements for coming here.
If they would organize, they would not be experiencing what they are going though.
It’s also applicable to citizens, because trucking companies are offloading the costs onto citizen truckers, who have to work with very minimal margins despite their long hours.
Yes, on your thoughts concerning migrants. I do think that they do target these individuals and their lack of knowledge and skill. I’m certain that all is spelled out in a contract and that if any person with reasonable language skills and reading comprehension took the time to read the contract that no sane person would sign such a contract.
Classic case of law not being a replacement for a lack of morality. I cannot tell you haw many people I hear defend some questionable activity by stating there is no law against it.
I don’t know how they can get anyone to drive long haul trucks for what they pay....Those people have NO life...
Require the legal ones to learn English..quickly..
Those people have NO life...
they will soon enough, this will be a major market for robot drivers... not sure when but it will happen sooner than todays drivers expect.
When you are illegal organizing is not an option.
Where is the Teamster’s Union?
They might do some good for once in their miserable existence.
They should give up trucks in CA and just become Uber drivers.
.
Don’t hold your breath!
.
Depends on who you work for. There are some excellent companies out there and some shitty ones as well. Schneider truck lines, and a good many others, is one of the best and high pay as well. As far as no life as you call it, if you have trucker blood in you than trucks and the road are your life.
There are two problems that a lot of folks don’t think about, when they note that I have spoken out against illegal aliens inside the U.S.
1. There is a black market for illegal aliens, and the coyotes can and do abuse the women and others. This angers me, and I want to see it stopped. Shoot these traffickers dead.
2. Since the illegal aliens become a part of the underground economy, they are subject to being abused in the work environment.
I don’t want to see either of these things take place. Not only is this a festering problem inside the United States for Citizens, cities, regions, states, and our federal government, it’s sub human for the illegals themselves.
This should not be taking place.
Those who profit off it, should have the book thrown at them so hard, there will still be a title embossed on their body where the book hit them, twenty years later.
I repeat, the way to help the Mexican national, is the help spur the economy on their side of the border.
Start out with low paying jobs. When those businesses take off, bring on a little higher paying jobs. Then later still higher paying jobs... Pretty soon you’ve got a thriving economy.
That is how you help people where they live, and you don’t do serious damage to your own nation.
This doesn’t have to involve our own government.
The private business sector should be able to exploit the need for certain services inside Mexico. What’s not to like about increased profits? If we can do fast food here, why can’t they there?
The idea is to get an income stream developed for citizens and government. Once those things are initiated, they feed themselves, and the economy takes off.
Supply and demand. Who knew?
Maybe between terminals for freight outfits like roadway or yellow, but there will always be delivery drivers, heavy haul, tankers and flat beds etc.
Allowing people who can't read and understand highway signs on the roads, driving big trucks, seems like a very bad idea...
This has not been pulled.
Nope. I posted it as a link and provided a brief synopsis which seems acceptable for the terms they have with USA.
Live and learn.
This is the U.S. If I know one thing, its that no one is going to force any work out of anyone who doesnt want to give it.
