18 U.S.C. § 871 - U.S. Code - Unannotated Title 18. Crimes and Criminal Procedure § 871. Threats against President and successors to the Presidency
Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
One of the purposes of the law is to set an example for others. People threatening the president and not being held accountable sends a message that it is perfectly acceptable to threaten a president's life and you will not pay a price.
Time to start arresting and prosecuting these people. Should have been done from the start.
It may be that it was indirect. He didn’t say, “I’m going to XYZ,”
He might be in trouble at the box office....that is the best place to hit him.
Not at all defending what he said, but a good dose of caution is warranted when it comes to criminal prosecution of speech. Again, not defending what he said at all.
Put him on the terrorist watch list so he won’t be able to fly back to America.

Hate speech is protected speech in the US. Not defending what he said, but take a look across the Atlantic where people are being rounded up for relatively generic Facebook posts.
It needs to stop. Arrest a couple of these Hollywood people that are making the threats. Even if they are not found guilty, they will find being in legal limbo for a couple of years is not a happy place.
He live in France, oui? Definitely, no fly.
He has the kryptonite shielding (D) after his name and is thus impervious to all charges. Like Hillary

I agree. I remember someone here on FR, years ago, who said something milder than what Depp said and later posted that the Secret Service knew where he was and paid him a warning visit.
I think he was in the UK and is not even a US citizen any longer afaik, so not sure what laws apply unless he enters the states next.
I imagine Disney got to him not wanting more bad press and is the main reason we hear an apology.
Among other things, that would prevent them from voting.
