Probably the Jewish history in Morocco will be erased by a fundamentalist takeover. Jews in Morocco, as in other Muslim lands, saw their fortunes rise when ‘moderate’ Muslims came to power, and then fall when an inevitable Muslim revival movement brought fundamentalists to power.
The Jews are Morocco are mostly French-speaking, reflecting the moderating influence of western Civilization on Muslim countries. Western Civilization and its humane effects are dying rapidly.
In my new novel, set maybe ten or so years in the future after a global financial crash, three factions are vying for control of Morocco. All of this has many echoes in Moroccan history. In the north, the king is still in power. In the south, Mahmoud El-Ayyachi, a fanatical marabout. In the middle, in Port Zerhoun, a cartel of corsair pirates.
Moroccan history is fascinating, and I don’t thing anybody today can predict what will happen in a generation, a century, or five centuries. But my novel, set in the near future, does reference the past five centuries, and barely scratches the surface. I would invite you to look at my reading list above, starting with Giles Milton’s book.
