Caww, I agree with you. Merkel has her neck stretched way out here, and she doesn’t want to be the lone ranger.

Am I wrong in my take that Germany has way too much power in the E.U.?

No you’re not wrong.....Merkel’s been the lead player especially during Obama’s terms....he cozied right up to her and vice-versa. So that foot-play between the two of course would mean the other EU leaders would follow. Thus Obama also ‘secured’ Merkel’s position over the EU.

Just like she’s now got France in her back pocket....I was hoping Le Pen would have made that impossible. But the other EU nations are not buying it any more... it’s not that she is loosing power it’s that the other nation leaders are exerting their independence so she’s trying to hold that ball of wax from melting.
