U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has been getting hammered on social media after a cringe-worthy photo of his awkward attempt to embrace the much taller Ivanka Trump popped up on political websites.
The statuesque first daughter was on Capitol Hill this morning to talk about her new child tax-credit proposal in a meeting with lawmakers called by the second-term Republican senator.
The conversation, which included a proposal to provide incentives for businesses to provide family leave for employees, must have gone really well.
Despite being savaged by Donald Trump during last year’s presidential debates, Rubio, 46, appeared to feel some kind of kinship with Ivanka, and he attempted to hug her.
In front of reporters.
Not a good idea, because it takes two to tango, and Ivanka wouldn’t have it.
It looked particularly robotic, especially when Trump kept her arms glued to her side.
And she appeared to set her jaw until Rubio, who’s 5 feet 9 inches according to his driver’s license, got his hands off her.
The Associated Press captured the priceless moment — Ivanka has at least three inches on Marco, plus she was wearing shades — and the internet has been going wild with commentary, and not all of them good.
“Okay, I’m not an expert in body language, but it does appear Ivanka Trump is as repulsed by Marco Rubio as the rest of us,” wrote @rideatdawn.
Another Twitter user: “Ivanka: Who are you again? Rubio: I’m Marco. Ivanka: Polo?”
The Trumps: Not for weak men.
Rubio is so short he probably got “a bust in the mouth!”
If she’s truly an observant Jew, she would be scrupulous about not hugging men that she’s not related to or married to, let alone Rubio.
Pulitzer Prize committee will read these stories with interest.
Some don’t play politics. Republicans would do well to realize and remember that. Voters don’t play politics either. The people are behind President Trump, his endorsement will be worth 15-20 percentage points in the primaries. GOPe would do well to become the GOPT!
The entire image is hilarious. Look at the guy sitting behind them, looking up at Little Marco.....looks to be saying, “Dude, seriously....WTFlip are you doing?”
This will go well with his water drinking fiasco.
Ruboto should keep his hands to himself.
He needs to be replaced before he tries again to give away our country.
I remember an awards ceremony where Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Rooney were to make the award. Jayne came out on stage wearing heels which only exaggerated her height. They had to crowd together to fit in the frame, so Mickey ended up with Jaynes boobs in his face. The audience was already laughing about that when Mickey quipped, “So who wants to be tall?”
I’ve never been a big fan of the hug or kisses in public settings.
Some of the biggest male or female jerks act as if they have a right to walk up and hug or kiss people. No thanks.
When you know some of these folks, you find yourself not being very thrilled when they lurch for your significant other.
Much is made of this. Rubio isn’t that much shorter than Ivanka. Three inches? Bid deal.
As a general rule, express your pleasure at seeing someone at an event, and leave it at that.
And then gets the patronizing pat on the shoulder. Oof.

He couldn’t hardly get his little hands around her.
After his Senate stint is up he could get a job in the midget wrestling arena.
Rubio is high tailing it out of there!
