While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out. At least I know China tried!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 20, 2017

My apologies if this doesn't post properly. It's my first time trying to copy a tweet.

It looks like we are now entering the next phase. Hold on folks.

Trump seems pretty upset at how NK treated Otto.

Yep. Trump has decided that he won’t be handing a nuclear armed Nork menace off to the next President. It’s going to come to a head now. It’s up to Kim whether this is a peaceful disarmament or a flaming inferno with Kim being at the center of the pyre.

Will we see an orchestrated coup, or assassination of Little Kim, or will we see a massive pre-emptive strike on Nork artillery positions and missile launch sites? Maybe a combination of both? What other options are there?

I don’t see any other options. A coup with an offer of surrender could be the only thing that will save the Norks from being on the receiving end of an extremely short and violent war. Their 14k artillery pieces and their missiles will get taken out in the opening minutes with no warning. Trump is not a President afraid to unleash our military power. The goal will be to render the Norks unable to fight in as short a time as possible. I’m sure that China and the neighbors have been consulted on what will happen with a defeated NK.

I would imagine the following message, or something similar will be delivered to Kim shortly, if it hasn’t been delivered already.

“If you return the rest of our citizens now, and in good health, then we’ll offer you safe passage to the country of your choice to live out the rest of your life in exile. If you do not return our citizens now and in good health, then the rest of your life will be very short.”

If they do not read the New York Times or watch CNN, they’ll never know what hit ‘em!!! /s;)

Well dug in as our troops are, they will have to take a big hit.

It would be disastrous. I think Trump is playing to the Chinese ego to do more.

It’s mind boggling how simple so many see it. How quickly the losses are ignored, overlooked or amazingly underestimated

Seriously, I am 100% sure, that the NYT and CNN, would both be more than happy to put the troops in danger, and let their commie bosom buddies know about an attack. 👎😠

Because in unicorn world passively watching North Korea build an ICBM arsenal is a much better idea. Because they are rational ‘n stuff and can be trusted to never fling one at the neighbors, or EMP the American west coast.

Carter/McGovern 2020.

No one said that ass hat. No one. Just pointing out half of Soel and almost every US troop there will perish and that it is not nearly as easy as so many naive people seem to think. This would also include war with China.

Nobody said it would be easy. Having said that, what’s your solution? Do you have infinite patience in diplomacy? If so, then you’re basically agreeing with Pelham’s depiction that,

“...watching North Korea build an ICBM arsenal is a much better idea”

and

” [the Norks} can be trusted to never fling one[an ICBM] at the neighbors, or EMP the American west coast.”

If you don’t believe in infinite patience, then what is your solution?

Also, your assumption that action on North Korea would mean war with China is way off base. With a strong CIC like Trump, that is extremely unlikely. Do you think China wants war with the U.S. any more than we do? They know how it would end. With a weak leader, they might try to interfere via some low level intervention. But to actually get in the way of the U.S. military in all its might would be suicide and they know it.

Of course before any U.S. action against the Norks occurs, there needs to be and will be back channel communications with China about the parameters of any such action so as to avoid any miscalculations or miscommunications. But the bottom line is the bottom line. China would be crazy to interfere, and they are not crazy.

This thing still might resolve itself without a hot war, but the options are running out. If Kim understands that, then there is a brief opportunity for his self-preservation instinct to kick in and allow this to be resolved diplomatically. If not, then what is your solution?

Yeah, I’ve heard that the Norks can withstand a massed attack of ERW, MOABs, MOPs and all the rest without a scratch. Because they’re basically immortal. When all their weaponry vanishes in the first ten minutes they will destroy Seoul by throwing rocks.

People aren’t remembering Xi’s visit to Mar-A-Lago. Trump spent considerable effort honoring Xi in ways that are noticed in that culture. There is nothing that involves NK that Xi won’t be consulted on. The odd man out is Kim Jong-un. No one in that neighborhood trusts Kim now but his reach is limited. Once he decided to join the ICBM club he put a bounty on his head.

Agreed. I read a comment on another site today that I thought was perceptive. The gist of it was that, this message from Trump is really a coordinated message from both Trump and China. The message from the Chinese is, ‘Well we tried to reason with you and you ignored us. Now you’re going to have to deal with the Americans.’

If that doesn’t get Kim’s attention, then nothing will. It looks like it may have already had that effect based on Kim’s offer yesterday to discuss halting further missile/nuclear development. Of course, talk is cheap. We’ll have to see if it really amounts to anything.

That sounds about right. Trump and Xi would much prefer to resolve the Nork problem without war, but war is on the table. They would probably even leave Kim in power if he disarms. But what they aren’t going to do is let NK become a nuclear power capable of blackmailing everyone within missile range. That’s what happens when your family has a 70 yr record of being crazy sons of bitches.
