The struggle over what American students learn about global warming is heating up as conservative lawmakers, climate change doubters and others attempt to push rejected or debunked theories into the classroom.
An overwhelming majority of climate scientists say manmade emissions drive global warming, but theres no such consensus among educators over how climate change and its causes should be taught.
An NCSE survey released last year of 1,500 public middle- and high-school science teachers found about three-quarters taught something about climate change during the 2014-15 school year. About a quarter give equal time to perspectives that raise doubt about the scientific consensus, the survey found.
Evans, of the teachers association, said he doesnt want students caught in political rhetoric but believes Trump is sending the wrong message about climate change and the value of science in public life.
Students should be presented with evidence, not opinion, and understand topics like climate change by learning the science behind them, not merely accepting others conclusions, he said.

If not for junk science, no science would be indoctrinated into “da yutes” at all.
The way junk science is taught, it may as well be some cult. NO critical thinking, NO actual relationship to the real world, and NO verifiable reproduction of supposed results of experimentation.
How about we teach reading, writing, and arithmetic?
How about we bring back civics classes, so that these kids actually learn how our government is structured?
Maybe we should restrict science to actual science which has stood the test of time, as opposed to ever changing “scientific theories” surrounding global warming?
Maybe we should teach values in schools.
Maybe we should say, that global warming is a subject that those who find it interesting, can research it on their own time.
The same bunch who saved us with African killer bees, kudzu, Quack Grass, Global Freezing, genetic engineering of crops, Roundup ready everything, and Islam outreach.
And an overwhelming majority of people who work for a living strive to please their bosses. You don't bite the hand that feeds you...IF you want to keep eating. These "climate scientists" are 100% parasites that couldn't use their pointy heads to do an honest day's work if they were starving.
cripes... how can anybody make a determination based on this article when the 2nd sentence in this article states a lie as a fact.
Teaching “globull warming” to students is nonsense. Especially in classes before college, true science should focus on the scientific method, teaching the fundamental laws of science, learn to test hypotheses, execute proper experiments, reproduce results, learn scientific fundamentals.
If young adults learn those kinds of things well, then they will be in a position to understand the difference between fake science and real science. They will be able to apply critical thinking to many other endeavors as well.
Teaching globull warming is nothing more or less than indoctrination.

There’s no reason climate change should be taught in science class - even if it were real science.
Kids need to learn basics.

Silly me, and I thought the majority of scientists believed the Earth has warmed its way out of ice ages and interglacial periods without be driven by manmade emissions.
High school is the place to learn the scientific method. That should be the primary focus.
Why don’t they teach the science behind the cause of the ice ages throughout Earth’s history?
That if you have an XY chromosome pair and a penis, you're a man, no matter what.

Based on many news reports that I’ve seen lately, many youts are coming out of high school knowing nothing about reading, writing and arithmetic.
I guess they might as well know nothing about climatology, too.
