I think Redskins and Slants are two different issues. Slants is derogatory term attempted to be used by an Asian while Redskins is term being used by non-Indians. In PC language, cultural appropriation. Plus derogatory. While the team might get their trademark back, I don't think that issue is resolved. They should change their name.

And I spent 19 years in the DC area hearing and reading about this as it has percolated. For every Indian someone trots out as not being offended, there are others who are. No one would name a time N* so why Redskins?

I hear you but who exactly gets to decide what is offensive??

Where are lines drawn? If Redskins is offensive, then based on these criteria, Boston Celtics is offensive. So is Minnesota Vikings. Both are ethnic nicknames.

We could also ask, how is it that Washington Redskins is offensive today, but was not offensive in 1950? What changed?

No one cares where you lived. The problem is you’re a snowflake that’s never grown up.

Idiotic. Tell me where you find a right not to be offended. And who the hell told you only some people can use some words?

You don’t like redskins, don’t buy a jersey. People don’t pick sports names to insult, they pick them to show strength. Also, huge numbers of Indian tribes do not support your anti- redskins jihad.

Did you not see the latest poll of Native descended Americans on the issue? it was overwhelmingly AGAINST forcing a name change. Most didnt really care.

Oklahoma is a Choctaw word that means “red people”. Do you believe that is as offensive as “redskins”?

“No one would name a time N* so why Redskins?”

The reality is that now we can establish an all-black NBA team called, let’s say, the Nashville Ni**ers. I’ll bet, if they WON some games, that such a team would have HUGE black support, because they would be perceived as underdogs, struggling for a chance!

Anyone want to finance such a start-up team?

There used to be a high school team named the Frisco Coons.

And if you want a blatant case of cultural appropriation, what about Ole Miss having a Black Colonel Rebel?

I think you’d be much more comfortable at a liberal site. That way you can spend your days demanding apologies and explaining how and why liberals are habitually offended.

:: I spent 19 years in the DC area ::

I think I see YOUR problem here. YOU want to decide...according to your personal-and-assumed offense on behalf of [native] Indians, what should and should-not be acceptable in society.
Reno89519... we [Indians] can defend ourselves and we DO NOT need your “white-bread” support against any perception of bigotry. Can you say, “fascism”? I knew you could.

As I am 1/16 Chippewa (Pottawatomie), I find your arrogance quite insulting to the (native) Indians and tribes of North America [yes, we have no concern with being called “Indians”...just check out our gambling houses!)

We have not appointed YOU to be our protector. We did not ask ^you^ for a blanket consideration and protection from cultural speech patterns.

Serious inquiry
...from whom and where do you assume to “protect” Indians (Aboriginal Americans) from such words?

I say again...y’all white people be funny.

Oh no. You're "offended." Maybe shut your hole and just walk away from the Redskins then? Just a suggestion.

The rule of law doesn't exist to safeguard your delicate sensibilities.

Money should separate what society tolerates and what it doesn’t in terms of being offended. That’s an easy one. If a team choose to pick that name nobody would go to the games, no city would use public funds, no businesses would actually do any sponsorships.

Plus Redskins isn’t used as a negative term, there is no way you could get away with that using the N word. Unless it was a Black owner, all black owners, and besides then what, nobody white could ever say it, we would have to call it that N word team. It would be like Prince changing his name to a symbol. It would be.. “The team formerly named the N word”.
