More fishiness in the ramming of USS Fitzgerald
American Thinker ^ | Thomas Lifson

The ramming of the USS Fitzgerald – still being misreported as a “collision” – is shrouded in puzzling behavior. This is an accident (if indeed it was unintentional) that should not have been possible. Now comes news of something very suspicious. The Associated Press has just filed a non-bylined story, “Japan investigates delay in reporting US Navy ship collision,” that reveals:

Japan's coast guard is investigating why it took nearly an hour for a deadly collision between a U.S. Navy destroyer and a container ship to be reported.

A coast guard official said Monday they are trying to find out what the crew of the Philippine-flagged ACX Crystal was doing before reporting the collision to authorities 50 minutes later.

The coast guard initially said the collision occurred at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday because the Philippine ship had reported it at 2:25 a.m. and said it just happened. After interviewing Filipino crewmembers, the coast guard has changed the collision time to 1:30 a.m.

What was going on that prevented prompt report?
Nanami Meguro, a spokeswoman for NYK Line, the ship's operator, agreed with the revised timing of the collision.

Meguro said the ship was "operating as usual" until the collision at 1:30 a.m., as shown on a ship tracking service that the company uses. She said the ship reported to the coast guard at 2:25 a.m., but she could not provide details about what the ship was doing for nearly an hour.

I read something along the same lines yesterday but I put it off as a “conspiracy theory”. Maybe there is more to it.

Nearly impossible to have an accidental collision, nearly impossible to plan a collision. Which impossibility is it?

Given the obvious damage (in the photos) to the DESTROYER from a collision with a cargo ship, I am very curious about just what was the speed of the cargo ship at the time. My second question would be what was the crew of the destroyer doing when the cargo ship collided with it. Was no one on watch?

It’s hard to figure how this could happen with radar on both ships screaming and alarming about a collision.

Wonder if there are surveillance cameras on the bridge and if the public will ever learn just what the officer and the crew on duty were doing? It would appear that their attention was elsewhere.

The Fraud spent eight years turning the US Navy into a gay party, and it was late at night....

Were both ships rendezvousing for a surreptitious cargo transfer? The damage doesn’t seem consistent with a medium or high speed impact.

That collision was as close to the citadel as you can get without hitting the citadel dead on.

My first thought was something fishy about the story, and there still is. However I question the proficiency of the Ships crew if got even permitting the ship to be placed in a position where it could be rammed.

Destroyer hit in the middle from the cargo ship bow, that means the cargo ship turned into the destroyer path. The Destroyer either sped up, slowed down or simply didn’t know it was happening.

Be interesting to know when the collision alarms were sounded.

Feel sorry for the crew member that died.

I wonder if the cargo ships crew were immediately detained and placed under guard by the Navy boarding party. If there was one. That could account for the hour delay.

JFK’s middle name was Fitzgerald. So, there is a precedent for a floating Ferrari to be surprised and run over by a floating steam roller.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Perhaps(puts the foil on), they the crew *were* actively attempting to avoid a ramming attack.

There are way too many suspicious things surrounding this event or is it part of series of events??

Before going any further I would like to state that I have absolutely no experience as to what goes on, on a navy ship etc. In other words I am totally ignorant in regards to procedures. But what did crossed my mind was, doesn’t have a naval vessel, especially a destroyer several people in charge who are supposed to take care of surveillance as to what goes on around or may be approaching such a ship, as it could be very well be friend or foe. Not to mention what happened to the radar unit, was it down for service. Anyone in charge for security on such a vessel, certainly would be looking for a different job and that would be the least.
