LONDON (AP) — London police, already stretched by a series of major incidents around the capital, are putting more officers on the street to reassure the public after a driver plowed into a crowd of people leaving a mosque early Monday. One man died at the scene and 10 people were injured.
Police say a suspect was arrested immediately after the attack, which is being treated as a terrorist incident.
"Extra officers are on duty in the area to help reassure the local community," Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said. "They will be there for as long as they are needed. Communities will see additional officers patrolling across the city and at Muslim places of worship."
Police said the 48-year-old man who was driving the van has been arrested and taken to a hospital as a precaution. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. It was not immediately clear why no charge had been made in relation to the one death.

I saw a map in one of the London newspapers and it showed the incident was several blocks from the mosque.

Whether it is a court verfict you don’t like or just a random attack on civilians, it’s unjustified. You’d need to declare your legal justification for using a violent means of attack on person or persons.

Look, I understand. A cherished belief has been challenged, and you can’t find an answer to the question, “Why do you believe that?”
Becoming angry with me won’t help you.
Find a quiet place and ask yourself why our right to self-defense is entrusted completely and solely to the government, and why we lose that right if the government won’t enforce it.
You aren’t ‘defending yourself’ by plowing a van into random targets. No more than Dylan Roof was defending anything.
Even lynching isn’t a defense, it is mob rule (and was practiced against a variety of crooks and crimenals awaiting trial and even those broke strikes, not just black people.

We’re not talking about that. We’re talking about your statement that vigilante action is always and only wrongful, and the reasons you have for believing that.

Some of the things that people have done when the authorities wouldn’t include giving people a talking to, or a whipping, or running them out of town. Those things are all vigilantism.
So, back to the question: why do we lose our right to be safe from predators if the government refuses to enforce it?
