Guess they thought Turkey would eventually reform. They did not. They got more subtle about persecution and genocide (cultural and real).

In the beginning of my study of this, I had some sympathy for the Kemalists. Now, I have learned they are still doing the same thing, just not broadcasting it.

All those minorities living under it, Understand it Totally.

Well I had to look up when and how....so here’s what apparently is how they got in....

Turkey’s strategic location boosted NATO’s leverage against the Soviet Union after the Second World War.
“NATO membership would guarantee, in essence, that Turkey would not become a Soviet ally. They’ve retained their membership since they joined NATO in February 1952
