London fire: 58 missing, presumed dead - police
BBC ^ | June 16, 2017

Posted on 06/17/2017 11:33:10 AM PDT by SMGFan

A total of 58 people are dead or missing, presumed dead following the devastating fire at Grenfell Tower in west London, police have said. Commander Stuart Cundy said that number "may increase". The BBC understands it could be around 70 people in total.

The recovery operation at the burnt-out block of flats has resumed and could take weeks, he said. Meanwhile, PM Theresa May admitted support for families in the "initial hours" was "not good enough". The statement came after Mrs May met some of the people made homeless by the fire and volunteer helpers in Downing Street.

The narrative has moved away from terrorism to lax government regulation and the greedy evil landlord.

In 2015 when they installed the cheap materials and installed the “chimney” curtain and paid off the inspecters. Since the gov’t was involved I bet no one will be held liable.

Where did you see the information about the inspectors being paid off? Can you please share that source? Thanks.

This fire reminds WAY too much of the tragedies of the Cocoanut Grove nightclub fire from 1942 and the Hartford circus tent fire from 1944--the flammable materials went up so fast there was no chance of escape.

I wonder if the police and/or the security services have entertained the possibility that the fire could have been started deliberately by one of that complex’s many Third World moslem residents/visitors.

My Dad told me that his oldest brother (who died before I was born) almost died in that fire....just barely managed to get out unharmed.

They used Reynobond PE instead of the Reynobond FP that the architect had specified, saving £2 a square meter. This was apparently legal in the UK, although it would not be allowed n Germany or the US.

FP stands for “Fire Proof”.

It never was terrorism. It was clear from the start.

Agreed. Except those tragedies were incidents that we learned from. People died here because no one required this building to be brought up to code.

Actually, it reminds me of the Ghostship, the perps of which were just apprehended and jailed.

“Where did you see the information about the inspectors being paid off?”

At Geico you save 15%, inspectors get paid off, it’s what they do!

Yes, but nobody lives in a nightclub or a circus tent. this building houses hundreds of people. My mind is boggled by this dreadful event. And evidently the government is being nearly completely useless in the aftermath.

Much like any city bus accident, the number of missing presumed dead will only grow as news reports of government culpability increase.

27 floors quickly burned to a blackened shell, and less than three fatalities per floor. Remarkable.

"See photos of fire."

I've seen them. And hundreds of actual fires that start and spread for a lot of reasons. A fire is no proof an inspector has been paid off. Spreading slander when you don't know the facts is irresponsible.

Agreed. I wonder if the horror of the visuals was due to the cladding which may or may not have extended inside.
