I was on the USS Shreveport when I collided wit the USS Fairfax County around 1993-94. That was during a towing excise though. The XO, who had the con was immediately relieved of his position and flown off the ship. The funny thing I remember about the incident is that of all the life raft containers that hit the water that day, only about half of them actually opened.

Scary - don’t they check those from time to time to make sure they work?

We spent two hours once searching the ship for a Seaman Rackio, during an ‘abandon ship’ drill. Til the LPO at Rack10 realized his muster card had a misspelling on it, and Rackio was Rack10, not the first person listed on the muster card.
