The gunman who opened fire on a group of Republican Congressman and their staffers on Wednesday morning in Washington DC was once a foster parent to two teenage girls.
James Hodgkinson and his wife Suzanne brought Wanda Ashley Stock into their home back in the summer of 1996, enrolling the young girl at the nearby Belleville East High School.
Two months into the school year however, the 17-year-old committed suicide in a painful and gruesome manner, dousing her body in gasoline and then lighting herself on fire as she sat in her car on the side of the road.
She was pronounced dead at the scene on October 23, 1996.
In an interview with the Belleville-News Democrat soon after the incident, the Hodgkinson described the young woman as a 'very practical, level-headed girl.'

If that kind of thing doesn't drive you over the edge, nothing will. Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.

Baseball gunman had foster daughter, 17, who committed suicide by dousing her body in gasoline and then lighting herself on fire
That was twenty years ago and they were only his foster “kids” for two months before the suicide. Yea, that would be awful and shocking but it’s not as if he lost his own child to suicide or an adopted child. We’re talking about a 17 year old he just took in, then she killed herself.
How does that have anything to do with trying to assassinate congressman two decades later?
Most people could post worst tragedies and don’t try to commit mass murder.
Your name fits...
And how do we know he didn’t drive her over the edge?
How do we know he didn’t light her on fire?
He most likely did. He beat the other foster daughter and she was taken away from them.
was he normal before that? Perhaps he has always been an angry, psychotic, violent and paranoid individual, causing a bad effect on people around him, which may have made his step-daughter even more depressed.
Or at 17 even molest her, possible motive.
>> Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes.
Fortunately that’s not a Constitutional requirement.
Why? Besides why did she kill herself?
Maybe something was going on in that house.
Did you see this:
Several years later, the family fostered another teen girl, whom they later lost custody of after Hodgkinson was accused of abusing her.
In 2006, he charged into a neighbors home where the foster daughter was hanging out with a friend, then-19-year-old Aimee Moreland, and smacked the pal in the face with a closed fist, according to the Daily Beast.
At one point, he allegedly pointed a shotgun at Morelands boyfriend and popped off one round.
Hodgkinson was also seen throwing the foster daughter around the bedroom, according to a police report. When she tried to escape, he started hitting her arms, pulling her hair, and started grabbing her off the bed.
According to his foster daughter, he was always angry, Moreland told the Daily Beast. She was really unhappy there. She had come over to get away from them.
During the dispute, Moreland said, she jumped in a car with her friend, but Hodgkinson opened the vehicles door and hit her, then used a knife to cut the seat belt off his foster daughter.
He was arrested for domestic battery and discharge of a firearm, but the charges were later dropped.
Uhm.....he’s still 100% responsible for stalking and killing innocent people. I am terribly sorry his daughter committed suicide in such a horrible way - I do believe I’ve read he beat her.
Sounds as if someone was driven over the edge.
You have got to be kidding. Foster kid offs herself so shooting Congresscritters is understandable? How about this take instead, the guy was just an all around deranged, self righteous a-hole and typical “resistance” jerk off?
If the rumours I’ve been hearing about sexual abuse have any truth to them, we’ve not heard all of the rest of the story.
He gets a judgement free card for the rest of his life? Society went to hell once they started the “don’t judge” meme.
He assaulted another foster daughter as another poster has noted. After I read the article posted earlier, I started wondering. Dousing oneself in gasoline and setting oneself on fire doesn’t seem to be your typical teen girl suicide. My Spidey-sense tells me there is a LOT more to this killer yet to be unearthed.
Tons of people have had all kinds of horrendous personal experiences and don’t turn to mass murder.
Yes, it may help to “explain” how he could go off the deep end but it’s still not an excuse. It really doesn’t make him less of a monster, it’s simply a biographical fact about him. Even if someone is in complete and total despair there is a fundamental moral difference (obviously) between turning that rage and despair on oneself (suicide) vs. taking it out on innocent people.
Young girls do not kill themselves that way. where was Papa at the time?
