Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull isn't known for being a comedian but he tried some daring Donald Trump material on a room full of journalists in Canberra last night.

"It was beautiful. It was the most beautiful putting-me-at-ease ever," he jokes.
He even does a Donald Trump impersonation.
"The Donald and I, we are winning and winning in the polls. We are winning so much, we are winning, we are winning like we have never won before," he says.
He also alludes to the probe into the Trump campaign's links with Russia, adding: "I have this Russian guy… Believe me, it's true, it is true."
Mr Turnbull told 3AW radio today his speech was a "good humoured roast".
"(It was) light-hearted, affectionately light-hearted," Mr Turnbull told host Tom Elliott.
"It's a breach of protocol, it's a breach of faith and all those things, but it's light-hearted, affectionate, good natured.
"The butt of my jokes was myself.
"It was fun, we've got to lighten up."
The US Embassy said it was not concerned by the prime minister's speech.
"We understand that last night's event is equivalent to our own White House Correspondents' Dinner," an embassy spokesperson said.
"We take this with the good humour that was intended."

The relationship between the president and Mr Turnbull got off to a famously rocky start in January when they spoke on the phone.
The US president reportedly told the prime minister he'd spoken with four other leaders - including Russian President Vladimir Putin - and said "this was the worst call by far".
Mr Trump fumed about the deal the Obama administration struck with Canberra to take hundreds of refugees from Nauru and Manus Island, according to unnamed sources quoted by The Washington Post.

President Trump is preparing to accept hundreds of refugees from Iran and other terrorist-connected countries, taking them from camps being maintained by Australia under a deal his predecessor struck, without putting them through the long vetting that usually takes place, according to a new report being released Monday. Some of the refugees have tried to cleanse their social media presence to try to delete red flags that could cost them their chance to come to the U.S., the Center for Immigration Studies report concludes.
A staggering 88 percent of the refugees have some level of mental illness or disorder, according to a U.N. health inspection last year. And the center’s report documents incidents of rape and sexual assault perpetrated by the refugees on locals.
Australia has been looking for a landing place for the refugees for years, and President Obama agreed to take them. Mr. Trump criticized the “dumb” deal in February, and shared a testy phone call with Australia’s prime minister, but has since relented and is moving quickly to welcome the refugees.
It’s time to start referring to the Russia narrative as a “conspiracy theory”. First, that’s true. It is a completely unfounded theory that makes no logical sense and has less supporting evidence than the flat earth theory or the theory that Obama was in any meaningful way an American.
We need to ridicule those in the “resist” movement. Socialists are losers with nothing going for them in any other area of their lives. If they are laughed at politically too, they will have no idea what to do. I often refer to the Russians hacking anything awkward or inconvenient: the traffic light that turned red on me, the Cleveland Cavaliers in the championship games, Governor McAuliffe’s teleprompter (We Lose 93 Million Americans A Day To Gun Violence), etc. Liberals can’t stand it - it’s beautiful!

It is partisan, but ridicule is more effective than mere criticism. They don’t mind being partisan if it works, but the Ctrl-Left hates being treated as a joke. Let them know they look like fools.
The night we are concerned with the survival of a congressman and several others, these jokes are not funny. He needs to get that back channel message. And the broken promise on the refugees needs to stop as well.
