The GOP members have no obligation to bring down their president. Doing so will cost them the majorities they now have, so of course, Schumer would approve.

If anyone on this thread is an attorney, please feel free to correct my understanding. The FBI can - and usually does - make a request to the DOJ for a Special Counsel. What’s striking is that Comey could have asked Sally Yates - then the Deputy AG - to install a Special Counsel at any time. And she would have. But why did Comey not make such a request? And why did Yates not take the initiative herself if she’s empowered to? After all, these two were primary in publicly blathering about the “Muh Russian Collusion” narrative. So the fact they never did speaks volumes, I would think.

Once Trump fired Comey, then a total panic had to have set in within the Deep State. He was their protetcor; he was their mop up guy, and he was going to keep that narrative open all the way up until 2018, when Democrats have 23 senate seats to defend and 10 of them in state Trump won. So that snake Neil McCabe, Deputy FBI director and whose wife is a huge lefty Democrat (as is he), had to act fast. I’m thinking McCabe went to Rosenstein with some sort of “evidence” (concocted or otherwise) to request a Special Counsel, and Rosenstein played along (or got played, maybe). But they needed a new gatekeeper since Comey was now out. And they decided Mueller would do just that - keep the cloud of suspicion over Trump to weaken him as an advocate against all of those Democrats who will be otherwise vulnerable in 2018. Can you imagine what’s at stake for the left is the GOP obtains 60 seats in the Senate and keeps the House? Over 100 years of progressive policy goes down in flames. The Deep State (which is the Left, both Dem and GOP leftists) have everything on the line. Their only hope is to have a populist like Trump be weakened if not destroyed (politically) by the time the mid terms happen. THAT’S why McCabe went to Rosenstein to ask for a Special Counsel. He’s trying to save Democrats from oblivion.

Schmuckie is worried. He very much needs the support for Mueller to be bi partisan even that means one Republican speaking out for Mueller.

...”Mueller needs to recuse himself since Comey is his BFF who recently lost his cushy government job because of PRESIDENT Trump. It “looks bad” for Mueller to continue.”...

Heard this on Hannity last night:

Mueller’s Conflicts and Violations of Federal Law:
1. 28 CFR 45.2 “Disqualification arising from personal or political relationships.”
2. 28 CFR 600.7 “Conduct and Accountability.”

It was also pointed out that Comey’s testimony last week was closely coordinated with special prosecutor, Mueller, who is looking more and more like Comey’s BFF.

Any citizen of this country comfortable with this is either dishonest or doesn’t realize what is going on.

Hey Schumer, I recommend that president Trump fire Mueller and Rosenstein.

Put that in your Uzi and shoot it.

Mueller never should have been appointed and he should have had the integrity to not accept. Rosenstein the Incompetent should be fired. And if jeff sessions doesnt wake up and start investigating and prosecuting people he needs to step down.

If the Republicans are sporting anything but a pair of miniature marshmallows, collectively, they will force Mueller to resign.

Remember that a bunch of the RINO never-Trumpers in the GOP dislike Trump even more than Schmuckie. Doubt me? Look how they are busting ass to implement Trump's agenda.

Schumer added that if President Trump is weighing asking Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire Mueller, he should "look back in time and see what happened to a president who tried to do the same thing."

Looking back in history I see this.

“I’d urge that these attacks on Mr. Mueller be ceased, and that my friends on the other side of the aisle join me in defending his reputation. The critics are going a little too far here,” Schumer said

“I’d urge that these attacks on REPUBLICANS be ceased, and that my friends on the MY side of the aisle join me in defending THE REPUBLICANS reputation. The critics are going a little too far here,” Schumer said

Now, THAT is what he should have said. But nobody is pretending that any Democrats have a conscience.

-- ....but the question remains does Mueller really want to sink into the swamp or save face and recuse himself. --

I'm glad the spotlight is on Mueller, and I submit that he can "save face" by completing the investigation and turning a professional and thorough report to Rosenstein. Comey's with hunt investigations need to be handled and closed in a "convincing" manner, not summarily stopped.

Whoever gives Trump a clean bill is going to be pilloried by the press and the DEMs, and it looks to me that Mueller drew that straw.

Another benefit of all this is that by ratcheting up the accusation by innuendo, the RATs create a condition where quick resolution is valued. Unlike Comey, who could sit on the with hunt accusations forever, Mueller will be under pressure to deliver.

Nope. The pressure to DoJ for a SC can come from anywhere, and is effectively independent of the FBI.

In the Clinton investigation, the FBI as not conflicted. It could have and should have given the file to the DoJ. If not Lynch, then Lynch's deputy. It's up to Lynch (or her deputy) to decide if SC is warranted.

Comey usurped that. It's as if cop had investigated a murder but never informed the DA, because, in the cops opinion, no DA would press charges.

I've explained elsewhere, across a few threads, that I believe Mueller is a "Trump creation." Mueller (or somebody else) had to be SC in order to put Comey's witch hunt to bed, by somebody that the press could not spin into a Trump sycophant.

That's an unpopular view here, and I feel no need to repeat my justification over and over and over - meaning I have no interest in persuading people that I view as wring-headed, and I am grateful they feel no urge to persuade me.

If Trump's legal team really believes Mueller has a conflict of interest here, the proper course of action would be to address it in a timely fashion if and when Trump himself is asked/ordered by Mueller to cooperate in the investigation in some way.

Without any direct involvement between Mueller and Trump in the form of a subpoena or request for information, Trump probably has no legal standing to do anything other than complain publicly about Mueller's conflicts.

I’d urge Schumer to join Cosmo Kramer and take a daily bath in the East River. It might disguise the fact that Schumer stinks as badly as his foulmouthed celebrity relative Amy Schumer.

I concur with this.

Even the sturdiest and most upstanding members of the legal profession can't relish the idea of finding themselves a target of a Trump Twitter-storm.

What attacks on Mueller? I haven’t heard one little peep about anyone attacking Mueller. All I hear are attacks on Trump.
