Critical is used often after surgery unless it’s a simple procedure.

Plus i dont know how much we can rely on reports until maybe tomorrow or the next day.

But i could be wrong.

AMA, AHA and JCAH all define as follows:

Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

This is far worse then a routine post-op report, and is official from hospital.
