My current employer’s office building is only 2 stories and stretches out over acres with elevated walkways connecting the buildings. Everyone is sent out when a fire alarm goes off (well maybe not EVERY building, but those in the vicinity).

Whatever material they added to the outside of the building as cladding or as an ornamental enhancement is VERY flammable and obviously toxic.

The architect has stated that the materials he selected for the 2016 renovation were non-combustible. He also said he specified firebreaks around each window and between each floor. The contractor says he installed all the specified materials correctly.
I am sure there is an explanation somewhere.

There is an account by a girl that was in the world trade center on 911 where her friend told her, they want us to go back to our office and wait. She replied, if you stay here you will die. She did not stay in place.

The architect has stated that the materials he selected for the 2016 renovation were non-combustible.Non combustible or non flammable?
To: rktman
Had a feeling this would be the (very sad) case.
Prayers up.

The europeans have gone to propane and butane in refrigerators and air conditioning as “eco-friendly” refrigerants. Such things have been banned for use in homes for longer than you’ve been alive, IIRC. The only place in the US you’re generally going to encounter a propane or butane fridge is off-grid or in something like an RV.

The architect has stated that the materials he selected for the 2016 renovation were non-combustible. I would attest that he is grossly mistaken, if not criminally so.

My guess - ‘eco-friendly’ materials according to the label, built in China and not made to advertised spec.

Is it possible it was a terrorist attack, because an exploding refrigerator seems odd? Who uses a gas refrigerator? Why not only electric in a high rise? Seems stupid to me!

Ive never heard of refrigerators just exploding like that.
Never heard of cell phones doing it either until the Samsung Note 7. Given how cheap they make consumer products these days nothing surprises me.

An electric refrigerator can explode? ....In all my life I have never heard of that, and I’m getting older!

Yeah, maybe you have a point.
To: Drew68
That’s not unusual for tall buildings with standard fire protection systems.

The only place in the US youre generally going to encounter a propane or butane fridge is off-grid or in something like an RV. The Amish also use gas powered fridges, I saw them on sale in Amish country in Ohio.

Exploding fridge? More likely the center fuel tank.

Could be, but that would not have been fatal if the firebreaks had been correctly installed. I have a hunch that the problem lies there.
