He was the animated version of Leslie Nielsen! RIP. Thanks to Seth MacFarlane for hiring him.
RIP Mayor West
I just wish that the old TV series was available on DVD. My kids are missing out.
seriously, you got hit on by Batman! Hall Of Fame, baby!
Ok, now that is funny! And on this, the day of his passing, I will assume you looked st least 18! ;)
I know Julie Newmar (Catwoman) is still around and kicking. I think that it must be only her and Burt Ward (Robin) who are still left from that show, as Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) passed away a few years ago. Of course ones like Burgess Meredith and Cesar Romero and Vincent Price have long since gone to TV villains heaven.
I was 10 in 1966 as well. I don’t think people realize just how big Batman was that first season. I was glued to the same bat channel at the same bat time.
There was a documentary on him. For years, he was bitter that he was typecast, and just couldn’t escape the Batman role. Then, he finally accepted-—then embraced it. He began doing all sorts of nostalgia events, comic conventions, and finally came to absolutely love who he “was.”
Unfortunately, he never had the paychecks to accompany his post-Batman status, but he knew he was doing what God had called him to do.
We got it on one of the French channels in our locale (dubbed in that language of course) when I was a kid. Still was fun to watch, though. My area’s English TV stations were for some odd reason basically useless when it came to showing classic TV programs.
Thanx Adam, sorry Hellywood screwed you.
He hilariously lampooned his "Batman" style in the cartoon "Fairly Odd Parents", playing the superhero "Catman".
1966 Batman heard in French must have approached Avante Garde multi-media art!
Also an episode of King of Queens, where he bumped Lou Ferrigno, the Heffernin’s neighbor, as the Patton Oswald character’s guest at a comic convention. Funny stuff!
Another part my my youth............I distinctly remember having to have a Batman ring, so with part of my allowance in hand I walked down to the Grocery Store threw it in the Vending machine and out came my Rubber ring.
Found this at IMDB on Adam West, he was considered for the role of James Bond: Discussed the lead role in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) with Albert R. Broccoli. At the time, there were plans to reboot the franchise with an American Bond. West felt the role should be played by a British actor and ruled himself out of contention.
Now I wonder how that might have played out.
and Victor Buono (1938-1982)
RIP. West seemed like decent chap. Julie Newmar referred to him as the best Batman.
Wow! That was very unselfish of him, and I agree: James Bond has to be genuinely British.
I was fifteen years old and enrolled in a boarding school in Keene, Texas when the show aired.
There was this very cute, sweet, and intelligent Texan girl there named Alice. She lived in the community and did not attend my school, but I met her at church.
I used to walk two miles to visit her at home.
She would make popcorn and we’d sit on the couch and watch Batman. We laughed at it and had a good time.
It’s interesting the memories different television shows, movies, or even history bring to mind.
