I quit back in 1989. Aside from having occasional (once or twice a year) dreams where I am smoking again, it is not something I think about a lot. So hang in there, the cravings *will* go away.

The evidence of deleterious effects of pot usage is being documented now. With the push to legalize pot, the topic is now the subject of much medical research. No longer will groups like NORML be able to promote the idea of marijuana as a miraculous cure-all that has been suppressed—the evidence that says otherwise already exists, and is becoming more voluminous all the time.

Of course no discussion of marijuana would be complete without mention of Ricky Gates, the poster boy for marijuana, who drove his Conrail train through three red stop signals head on into an Amtrak train in 1987, killing 16 and injuring 174. It took the authorities almost a month to clean up the massive wreckage.

In a 1993 interview with The Baltimore Sun. Gates said the accident would have never happened if not for marijuana. The article is titled: “Ricky Gates: 6 years sober Yes, he declares, marijuana caused 1987 rail tragedy.”

“Fatal crashes involving drivers who recently used marijuana doubled in Washington after the state legalized the drug,” the AAA reported. “The significant increase in fatal crashes involving marijuana is alarming,” said Peter Kissinger, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety CEO, adding that “Washington serves as an eye-opening case study for what other states may experience with road safety after legalizing the drug.”

On Aug 8, 2016 the LA TIMES reported:

Marijuana-laced gummy ring candies are to blame for sickening 19 people at a quinceañera party Saturday night in San Francisco, health officials said Monday.

All 19 people were hospitalized after they suffered rapid heart rate, dilated pupils, high blood pressure, dizziness, lethargy, confusion and nausea – all effects of ingesting edible cannabis… 13 of the patients ranged in age from 6 to 18 years old…”This event is a strong warning about the dangers of edibles, which can be very potent and hard to control dosage in the best circumstances,” Dr. Tomas Aragon, health officer for San Francisco, said.

Your mod-deleted reply to me consisted of the letters, “F#&k you a$*hole.”

Normally I could care less. When I got home, I got curious.

So, to be clear, you are an elected legislator in a heretofore unknown jurisdiction representing some slice of America. You support the dumbing-down of the citizenry with nearly-unrestricted consumption of pot and selective enforcement of laws yet label yourself a libertarian.

As a ‘senator’ you respond to criticism with expletive-laden ad hominem attack.

You are the epitome of the core of the problem facing this country and if you had a pair you would be posting under your own name.

You are a coward, a hypocrite and your constituents must be dumber than Pelosi’s, assuming you still serve in the capacity you outline in your profile (serve in the senate, ostensibly as a senator).

I can only presume you have been voted out of office, failed to change your profile, live in the basement of your momma’s house clutching your bong and are mad at the world for not handing you your success.

THAT is my response to your attack.

What pearls of wisdom will follow, I wonder?

Push you favorite intoxicant all you want but it is not the benign substance some think it is.

Thank you. While you are technically trained in this area, it should be just common sense. Any intoxicant messes with the normal function of the brain. To consistently use substances which mess up your brain (even if it appears to be a temporary effect) is asking for problems.

This is a big issue for injuries at ski areas where a large percentage of the injured are chronic pot heads.

I went snowboarding in British Columbia and could smell it on the slopes, kids burning a joint while on a board. I'm not against recreational use, but found that dangerous because cannabis elevates heart rate. Not a safe idea when your heart rate is already elevated by physical activity.

The medical community is quick to point out the dangers of cannabis use. I find this hypocritical at times because many prescription drugs also have dangerous side effects. For example, Acetaminophen causes liver damage. My husband suffers from insomnia at times. I really wish he wouldn't use Ambien. I feel a couple tokes of an Indica dominant cannabis is probably safer and wouldn't leave him feeling like a zombie in the morning.

As I showed, much of it is disinformation.

Not only that, people aren’t buying the expensive taxed weed from the stores. They are buying dank ditchweed which smells horrible. My sister makes her BF smoke it outside because it stinks up her work clothes.

I would be tempted to believe your premise that weed diminishes pain if I had never smoked it.
But I did. Quite a bit really.
And it didn’t diminish pain.

Cyclic vomiting syndrome is the biggest reason.

Marijuana-induced vomiting is rare: "With the large prevalence of marijuana use in the world, why does it appear that so few patients develop CHS?" [emphasis added]
- Galli, J. A., Sawaya, R. A., & Friedenberg, F. K. “Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome.” Current drug abuse reviews 4.4 (2011): 241–249 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3576702/)

Push you favorite intoxicant

What I push is the liberty of adults to make their own choices - and I use no intoxicants so have no favorite.

all you want but it is not the benign substance some think it is

Nobody here claimed it was "benign" - any more than alcohol, tobacco, or a steady diet of bacon double cheeseburgers.

There is also no medical literature supporting the use of THC as a treatment for any condition.

False - the Institute of Medicine book "Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base" has dozens if not hundreds of such research citations.

So, based on the lack of evidence, I have to conclude that the FDA approval of THC was politically motivated, based on the same propaganda that NORML has been promoting for years.

So multi-billion-dollar pahramceutical companies with all their lobbying resources routinely have drugs rejected - but NOMRL pushed THC through? ROTFL!

If there was a law that all laws treat alcohol and cannabis equally, most anti-cannabis / pro-drug war types would change their tune in a heart beat, drunken hypocrites that they are.

That's at most an argument for further regulation - or simply consumer information requirements - not for banning. The contaminants in illegal moonshine and bathtub gin were arguments against, not for, Prohibition; and if we find tainted alcohol today, nobody claims it's an argument for a return to Prohibition.
