Hey, dude: When things go to pot

Recently, a crafting friend took a trip to Oregon to attend a show selling her products. She hadn’t been to the Beaver State in several years and was looking forward to the show. Afterward, she came back shaking her head. “They’ve all become lotus-eaters,” she remarked in wonder.

Oregon, in case you didn’t know, recently legalized recreational marijuana. It seems a tremendous number of people at the craft show – both visitors and vendors – were stoned. Mellow. Still capable of rational thought, but not inclined to make it a priority. Laid back, man. I wonder if the ancient Greeks were familiar with marijuana as the basis for the lotus-eaters?

Marijuana is not just a harmless weed, and the fallout from legalizing it is just beginning.

Thanks to our public education system, we’re already a nation of idiots. God forbid we should become a nation of lotus-eaters too.

Hmmm. We all know colorado did this a while back. A ballot initiative here in NV was approved last Nov to legalize it here. The legislature is still trying to work out all the particulars but the current session ends soon. Seems like there is a lot of misunderstanding about it being legal. It still will NOT be something you can do anyplace you feel like it. At your home seems to be about it. Possession of up to an ounce, no problem. I have a feeling that some folks are gonna be in for a rude awakening once all the details are worked out. Anyway, read Patrice's article and have at it. She does allow that there are medical pluses to MJ.

Smoking marijuana is bad for you.

Making it a crime to smoke pot is bad for society.

What is complicated about that? It’s a vice, not a crime.

I wonder if the ancient Greeks were familiar with marijuana as the basis for the lotus-eaters?

I believe one of the oldest known written words is "Joy" -- the image for this word looks like an opium poppy. That would predate the Greeks, but the Greeks had thorough knowledge of the Near East, so they probably knew about opium.

Also, I believe the Scythians (north of Greece) put cannabis on open fires and sat around in a circle to sort of talk to the gods.

Human civilization has a long familiarity with mind-altering substances, and usually decides that they are a bad idea.

I'm in MA -- we just made it legal here, but you can't actually sell it until 2018. I plan to watch events closely.

Did they get stoned at home and drive to the market?

Long on hyperbole and short on evidentiary value.

The new pot law in AK is destroying my friend’s rental properties. Who wants to live in a building full of pot smoke and pot heads? Pot heads. They make unreliable, deadbeat, dirty awfull tenants. It may be legal but it doesn’t mean they can ruin your property. Screen out pot smokers from your rentals. Just the same with alcoholic wife beaters.

I agree with you. Legalize it. Then regulate the types of fences that are acceptable, if that is such a big deal.

But where do we draw the line? Cocaine is bad for you. Making it a crime to snort it is bad for society?

I don't have the answers, just worried about what is the end game for those against drug prohibition. The (legal, but illegally obtained)opiate epidemic is killing enough of us as it is.

Part of my initial interview with custody case clients in this state:
Do you smoke weed?
No weed while we are in a custody case, the court could require you to drop (take a pee test) and weed is still illegal in this state.
Many parents are weed users.

Good post, except I would add that while smoking pot might be bad or even *very* bad for some people, it is without any question good or even *very* good for some people.

How nice of her to acknowledge it is part of our endocrine system!

That plant was designed for us by the one that designed us!

So what if everybody's happy and peaceful, not coveting the shiny chains of production? You're still free to slave your life away chasing fiat and it's toys. Is it so bad that those that don't are free also?

There is a bigger danger to landlords. In Colorado many have had their property destroyed by tenants gutting the inside of the house and turning it into a grow operation complete with grow lights, watering systems, etc totally destroying the structure.

A drunk driver will blow right past a stop sign.

A stoned driver will wait for it to turn green.

What Is Psychosis ? - WebMD

Psychosis is a set of symptoms that affect the mind. Those who experience it lose touch with reality. Find out what causes psychotic episodes and what treatments ...

Unsurprisingly, the observable prevailing mentality common amongst recreational potards here in Coloradistan is consistent with openly stated objectives...

"According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare.

What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.

It's a great brainwashing process which goes very slow and is divided into four basic stages.

The first stage being "demoralization". It takes from 15 to 20 years to demoralize a nation. Why that many years? Because this is the minimum number of years required to educate one generation of students in the country of your enemy exposed to the ideology of [their] enemy. In other words, Marxism-Leninism ideology is being pumped into the soft heads of at least 3 generation of American students without being challenged or counterbalanced by the basic values of Americanism; American patriotism.

From what I've observed so far - the "Experiment" isn't going to end well.
