An armed man pulled over after riding a dirt bike in North Philadelphia was shot and killed by a police officer during a confrontation Thursday evening, officials said, with surveillance video showing the officer shot the man while he was running away.
"It was a very violent encounter," Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
The explosive scene evolved around 6:40 p.m. on the 4100 block of Whitaker Avenue near the southern edge of the Feltonville neighborhood when an officer transporting people to the Special Victims Unit saw the dirt bike rider driving erratically and stopped to tell the man to stop, police said.
"Initially (the officer) was only going there to tell this guy to knock it off," Ross said.

Somebody’s going to prison......................
“...the officer shot the man while he was running away.”
“It was a very violent encounter...”
The man’s back musta scared hell outta the cop.
Grabbing a gun in front of a police officer while he is telling not to grab said gun. Then run from police officer and gets killed. Good riddance. I fully support the officer in this case based on those facts. Society will not miss another thug.
Pull a gun on a cop and expect to die. This is a Darwin event.
dirt bikes are used in the cities so criminals can run from cops easily
Just because you are running away at that moment doesn’t mean the cop can’t engage.....
The guy “armed” himself with a gun against the cops warning....was he running for cover to engage the cop further? Was he an immediate threat to the rest of the community....If the answer to either question was a “yes” then the shoot was fully justified.....
I do not see the officer firing in that video. The victim falls, but are we sure he was shot at the moment that he fell?
From the video I saw, he could just have well been shot at close range, ran around the corner, and collapsed in the street.
Hitting a running suspect at that range in the heat of the moment would have been a heck of a shot, if that is what happened.
“Stop or I’ll shoot” was an incredibly common phrase back when America was a civilized country. I have no problem with this shoot.
:: when an officer transporting people to the Special Victims Unit ::
Under what “color” of the officer’s authority is this allowed? Did he place his SVU group in jeopardy by stopping the scofflaw?
Bad use of authority, IMO.

Maybe the bike was stolen and that’s why he ran? At least we don’t have to hear the “white cop shoots unarmed black man” in this case.
Take away the reporters fluff and the truth starts to emerge. This is so typical with today's hyped "journalists".
I don’t completely disagree. The perp could easily have thrown a shot over his shoulder that hit the cop. It would’ve been an incredibly lucky shot, but still posed a threat to the cop. I guess it’s just the almost genetic belief that good guys don’t shoot people in the back...a belief I’d probably abandon if faced with the same situation.
Plenty of cops have been shot dead with a “parting shot”.
Somebodys going to prison......................

Uhhhh. FYI. Dead people don’t go to prison.
I didn’t read the article either. But the excerpt was clear enough.
Do you always automatically assume the cop made a bad shot and so he should go to prison?
Shooting someone in the back while they are running away presenting no danger to you will get you put in prison in this state...........................
Since the mid-eighties the requirement for lethal force has been posing a threat of serious injury or death to officers or the public. A guy that pulls a gun on a cop is a significant step up from a guy with a gun. That means he has no problems pulling a gun on anybody. As long as the office lawyers up, articulates what he saw and that the suspect pointed the weapon back at him, he should be fine.
How to react to this without knowing the skin color of everyone involved?
Honestly I agree with that.
POS pulls a gun, at that point all bets are off.
I have very little patience for road ragers and erratic bikers on the roads. Good riddance!
