The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Tuesday it had launched an operation to capture Raqqa, Islamic State's de facto Syrian capital.

..."They have had three years to establish their defences there. We expect a fight very similar to what we've seen in Mosul," he said, while adding that Raqqa is a much smaller city.

Drop a MOAB

Afghanistan has been very quiet since we dropped one there.

May I ask why 10 MOABs aren’t being used? Why shed one American life?

Like Mosul? So this should take a year or so? This should be flattened by artillery and iron bombs and taken by heavy formations.
But our low end generals will make this an infantry vs infantry fight, and ending with a negotiated withdrawal of ISIS forces.

Hope I’m wrong, but I’m usually not.

We are using these “Syrian democratic forces”. (in modern government speak, the title always means the opposite)

The bottom line, is that this is one of those rare times in humanity when a devastating, crushing, insulting blow needed to be dealt. The whole world could have been taught a valuable lesson. This place didn’t just need another rabble to defeat them. A shocking example needed to made of this place.

Instead, it will be piecemeal, and they will disperse all over Europe, and our State Department will bring as many as possible here.

Then the real fun begns.

The USAF should be conducting a mass bombing campaign initiated with cluster bombs and MOABs while the US Army uses heavy artillery to flatten everything. The time for nice is over, time to go full-Roman.

Raqqa should become a byword for death and never be allowed to rebuild.

Mattis said it’s annihilation time. Do you know more than he does?

The lack of service men and women dying has been one of favorite things about the Trump presidency, God willing, it continues.

It is so much better then the Bushes approach which seems to have no problem with starting wars, causing chaos and then walking away without winning, Obama's war via drone/uav was better than that. The Bushes can't finish anything thank God they are finished.

Raqqa is a capital city.

It should have been FLATTENED 3 years ago with B-52s.

RE: Drop a MOAB

So, we don’t care about civilians?

It was dropped in Afghanistan on cave areas where these bastards were hiding.

Mattis talks a big game. He also said the “didn’t bring artillery, tears in my eyes...if you F with me ill kill you all.”

When his men responded to a near ambush violently in Haditha. He had them sent to prison. Mattis wont back up his talk. It wont be annihilation time, just watch.

There are no civilians there. Only rebels and supporters.

And why is Raqqa more unbombable than Berlin, Munich, Belgrade, Hanoi, Tokyo, Hamburg, Cologne and dozens of others.

Face it, those “civilians” are part of the problem. Anyone still there after 3 years is there by choice.
