Even members of his own party were quick to declare President Donald Trumps budget plan dead on arrival in Congress last month. And in fact, lawmakers are facing a burst of overdue budget-related work this summer.
Most of whats on the budget agenda probably wont bear much resemblance to Trumps spending plan, which promised deep spending cuts on domestic programs, rapid economic growth, and a balanced federal ledger in a decade.
Instead, theyre confronting an increase in the governments borrowing cap, serious problems in advancing annual spending bills, and a smaller set of curbs on domestic benefit programs. [ ]
Atop the absolute must-do list is raising that borrowing cap, or debt limit. Doing so would avert a disastrous, first-ever default on U.S. obligations.

The business growth rate is important. New business, new jobs, a more full employment economy, this is all great for government receipts. It’s better for outlays as well.
It’s going to take some time to get the tax cuts in and get this economy rolling, but when it happens, things are going to be a lot better.
While some folks will undoubtedly think it all didn’t happen soon enough, we need to think how it would have worked if the Left had won.

If I raised the debt limit at my house we’d be living in the street.
It has to be done. Just do it.
No, those would qualify as must not do.
Of course it’s not happening soon enough. The sooner, the better. The sooner it happens, the sooner we start turning things around.
Any of us, if we could, would wave a magic wand and have it done now.
But the process is beginning. It will take some time, but as they say, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Let’s see how it plays out.
