I think they are able, sure - but it cuts against their beliefs, they are unwilling. They see nothing wrong with their conduct, or their goals. They feel no pressure to change, and criticism from outsiders just feeds their determination.

Immediately after Hillary's loss, Democrats did not try to discover why, after eight years of their delusions about "a personally popular president," why voters across the country rejected him and Hillary (as Obama's third term) in record numbers at every level of government. Democrats were consumed w/ anger directed at those who beat them; most of that sore loser Democrat anger is still being directed at Pres Trump.
