The city of Cleveland on Tuesday fired the police officer who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November 2014 and suspended another officer after investigations of the high-profile incident.
Police Chief Calvin Williams announced that Timothy Loehmann was fired for having lied on his job application and not disclosing that he had resigned from his previous position as a police officer in Independence, Mo., to avoid being fired for insubordination, emotional immaturity, dishonesty and mishandling his gun.

IMO, The officer certainly was guilty for lying on the application but city of Cleveland has major egg on their face for failing to do a background d check on Loehmann’s initial job application.
This police department most likely just wanted to sever all ties to Officer Loehmann, and used this opportunity to do it.
Where are the racist reverends here? Why aren’t the race baiters conniving to incite riots and unrest?
Really this is just a slap on the wrist here. If Black Lives truly Mattered, then why aren’t they burning and looting in Cleveland?
The kid was holding a rifle, which makes it “justified” but not right.
They drove up and the hotdog asshole shot out the window before the kid even did anything.
Yes I know it was not a REAL rifle- but it looks like one.
No, that’s my point.
They drove up and he immediately shot the kid out the window, before the cop car even stopped moving.
The kid (if I recall correctly) looked like he was sitting there -not moving- stunned that a cop car was driving up
The kid made no move to point the thing at the cops - he was holding it in his lap.
The cop shot him for no reason, and now it appears he had a history of being a cowboy with his gun.
I have to go look for the video again- I;m too old to remember it exactly. But I do recall thinking that the OTHER cop was probably saying “oh$h!t what did you shoot him for?????”.
Sounds like the shooting was a symptom of a larger problem with this guy.

It looks to me like a handgun. I’m sure it looked real to the cops (who were told someone was waving a gun). It is hard to be certain exactly what happened in the final two seconds, but it is plausible that the kid had reached for or was reaching for the gun - whether to get rid of it or for another reason would be difficult to decide in a fraction of a second. Clearly the cops should not have been so close, but it’s hard to argue beyond a reasonable doubt that the shooting was criminal.
I’m glad the cop was fired. Why did the police did not check that cop’s references before hiring him? I wonder if the next department he works for will check.
I wonder if his Dad encouraged him, with words and by example,to be smart.
Reprimanded for driving on grass? CoughBullshitcough cough.
Tamir Rice can no longer terrorize people with a realistic looking fake gun. I see that as a plus.
No sympathy for him. His momma failed.
“The kid made no move to point the thing at the cops - he was holding it in his lap.”
Actually the enhanced video recording showed Tamir Rice initially with the pistol in his waist band and then reaching for the pistol in his pants waist as the officer is yelling at him to raise his hands. It was found outside of his pants on the ground after the shooting, i.e.,Tamir Rice reached for it. Tough situation for all. Inquiry found no fault with the policeman’s actions under the circumstances.
Tioga Borough police officer withdraws application two days after swearing in
What a cluster...
As many have noted here on FR, these bad cops just move from department to department.
It’s not just that aspect of it.
How in Hades did Tioga not know who they were hiring?
That beggars belief.
Either the people running things are complete morons, certainly possible...
Or they are desperate for candidates.
And that kind of desperation won’t end well for the citizenry, either.
Today, Rocky Ford’s police department is led by Michael Bethel, a law enforcement veteran who, according to news reports, previously spent 11 years at the Pueblo Police Department. Bethel—who goes by “Mickey”—lost his job as a Pueblo sergeant in 2006 after felony witness tampering and misdemeanor official misconduct charges were filed against him in a case that would have ended many officers’ careers.
