I made a comment directed at someone else, about how well my buddy has raised his kids, and how well those kids behave.

My comment was to someone else and you chirp in with your unrequested and uninformed opinion.
You don’t know my buddy or his family and yet you defame them.

You defame others, that you know nothing about.
You do it in a forum, where they aren’t involved, where they can’t defend themselves.
And you do this all from the anonymity of a computer keyboard.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that or imply that.

Words have meanings.

Which means that God says that spanking is the ONLY option, OR the MOST appropriate.

Neither Pollster1, nor myself are saying to eliminate spanking, or sparing the rod. Just, that when used JUDICIOUSLY, that other forms of discipline can and do work. And when, those other forms don't work, THEN a spanking is appropriate.

On the other hand... You are ATTRIBUTTING TO GOD, that spankings are the most or only appropriate form of punishment or discipline.

Thanks, I knew from my own unspanked childhood what my kids would be like if we didn’t deal with him, so he as a huge disadvantage with me. To this day, my Mom keeps telling me that I don’t deserve my kids, they are simply too good for me, considering what I was when I was young. Obviously I don’t blame her for my upbringing (after all, I managed to stay out of jail - barely), she was doing what she was told was right, based on studies.

I also knew that if the Left takes a position on something, that I would be very, very, hard-pressed to agree with them. The left wants to ban spanking - that made the decision easy for me.

I like to use the analogy of kids and dogs. You don’t housebreak a dog by telling him the value of your flooring and politely asking him to respect it - you GET THE POINT ACROSS that there will be some level of pain when he does bad things. Pain, they (young kids and dogs) understand, negotiation is a sign of weakness.

Then you pipe in, uninvited, saying how terrible they are and how miserable the kids are.

I have four kids. Between the ages of 3 and 6, depending on the child, they got quick hand slaps or swats on the butt if necessary. After that age they won’t need it again. One child didn’t ever need one. A dirty look or a harsh tone in the voice had that one crying and redirecting his behavior.

Older kids make plenty of mistakes but they can be reasoned with. Natural or imposed consequences work fine after age 6, and even with kids with special needs, there is no reason to swat an older child. Figure out something with behavioral specialists for your special needs child’s dx. Someone has thought of a way.
