Thanks dfwright and Drango for the link.

I looked at that earlier, didn’t dig in, and just thought it was something like a “USAA News” site.

This move on their part does not make up for their mistake at all. They need to apologize and put the ads BACK on Hannity’s show.

Cancelled my auto insurance. Homeowners likely to follow. Local credit Union is looking good for my other banking, CD’s, etc.

Exactly. If it was by accident you wouldn’t think 100% of the three choices would be liberal. Statistically it’s not real likely. Therefore, I would call it intentional.

“I would feel better if the CEO were a retired officer, as previous ones had been. I have the impression they departed from that with the current CEO. Anyone know?”

Current CEO, Stuart Parker, was served in the Air Force for 10 years ending in 1993. He was a pilot. His profile on the USAA website indicates he joined USAA in 1998. The profile does not tell what he did between 1993 and 1998.

The non-executive Chairman of the Board, Lester Lyles, is a retired Air Force general officer.

Policyholders at USAA are also owners of the company. Management of a corporation legally has a fiduciary responsibility to the company’s owners. Members who question the company’s advertising policy, or its decisions, should write a letter to the CEO and the Board of Directors requesting an explanation.

Company executives are managing this public relations crisis poorly. The member forums on the company website, as well as public social media sites, are dominated by member/owner comments deploring the decision to end advertising on the Hannity program. Many customer/owners state they are cancelling their accounts. While the company has responded to some of the commentaries, including thanking some of the commentators supporting the company’s decision, as of 6:00 pm Saturday May 27 there has not been a communication to policy owners from the CEO or Board of Directors.

Even more troubling, in the few public statements made by underlings a company advertising policy was referenced but no place on the company website for the company owners is that policy posted. Some owners who have asked for a copy of the advertising policy have been told the company does not make the policy public.

The fact this controversy arose during the Memorial Day holiday is only serving to add to the outrage in the military community.

The intensity and number of comments of members in opposition to the decision to drop Hannity suggest this is a crisis in confidence of management, not simply a minor issue that will disappear. The failure of management to communicate quickly, forcefully and honestly with the policyholder owners is contributing to the loss of confidence. Delayed responses during a crisis never enhance perceptions about the trustworthiness of the executives involved.

Better to tell the truth, no matter how bad it may be perceived, than to ignore the outrage of customer/owners. People will respect the truth, even if they disagree with the decision. People never respect a coverup or obfuscation.

The ball today is management’s court. The company appears to be losing accounts while its management decides what action to take, if any.

I knew Lester Lyles some yrs ago. Good man.

Not altogether sure why they are advertising anywhere but military bases. What is the imperative to branch out?

Yep and as owners instead of bailing we need to exert our power and right the ship through exercising our voting and nomination rights for executive committee and board

“Not altogether sure why they are advertising anywhere but military bases. What is the imperative to branch out?”

According to the company 50% of the people eligible for membership have little knowledge of the company. My guess is many veterans who didn’t sign up during their years of service represent good prospects as they enjoy financial success in civilian life. Also dependents of military veterans who never served represent good prospects. The company may see national advertising as a good way to reach these prospects who no longer live near a military installation.

What is the possibility that the USAA department that buys ads is not in sync with the top management of USAA?

I have worked at several large insurance companies. At almost all of them the PR and HR departments were far left of the management, which was Centrist R, Centrist D. It is quite possible that not everyone at USAA is on the same page.

I read an article the other day, didn’t keep it because I didn’t think it mattered, but it said that USAA had hired a French Company to promote them...

This could be the problem...

Yep......I'm convinced.

They should buy insurance so this doesn't happen again.
