Ever since the advent of investigative journalism and 24 hour news, much of what we have been fed is fake news. Much of that is intentional although not necessarly by the media so much as those manipulating a willing media.

In the course of getting a breaking exclusive for example, news outlets produce poorly researched stories, not to be right but to be the first to break the story.

Investigative reporters have exploited "unnamed sources" to produce innuendo instead of fact. At times you would think leaking is a profession unto itself in the DC swamp.
