Candida auris is a species of ascomycetous fungus that grows as yeast.[1] It was first described in 2009.[1] It is one of the few species of the Candida genus that cause candidiasis in humans. Candidiasis is often acquired in hospitals by patients with weakened immune systems. Besides candidiasis, C. auris can cause invasive candidiasis in which the blood (fungemia), the central nervous system, kidneys, liver, bones, muscles, joints, spleen, or eyes are infected.[3] C. auris has recently attracted increased clinical attention because of its multidrug resistance.[4][5] Treatment is also complicated because C. auris is easily misidentified as other Candida species.[4][5] A brief outline of its clinical relevance as of 2016, understandable by general audiences, was published by the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.[6] The name Candida auris comes from the Latin word for ear, auris, under the genus Candida.[7] It was named a “catastrophic threat” by Dr. Anne Schuchat.[8]

Ummm, maybe folks who need a variety of testing, outpatient procedures done. Those flks can also be at risk for exposure. Jeez.

A fungus can be a yeast (a one-celled organism without true hyphe) or a mold (a multicellular organism with true hyphae). The latter are "fuzzy, fluffy fungi" while yeast are smooth and creamy resembling bacteria. Unlike bacteria, they do not respond to antibiotics designed to kill bacteria. All yeast belong to the Ascomycetes group of fungi, as does the mold Neurospora crassa made famous by Beadle and Tatum in their genetic experiments. The most common fungus isolated from humans is another species of Candida (Candida albicans) which can be normal in small numbers in the throat, vagina, or intestinal tract but can be a problem when the over-use of antibiotics kills all of the normal bacteria in these areas allowing the yeast to multiply.

CRE lodges in sink drains of infected patients' rooms, and nothing short of ripping out the plumbing gets rid of it.

I find it hard to believe that neither chlorine bleach nor ethanol will get rid of it.

keep it in perspective- there are millions upon millions of folks in homes- only a very few get these superbugs-

Also check out manuka honey to stop superbugs- the bugs do NOT build up a resistance to the honey- (this is m ore for open wounds that become infected)

Because your desire to not kill the host puts an innate cap on how strong you can make antibiotics. We’ve already got them strong enough to be pretty hazardous, ask anybody that’s multicoursed themselves to C.Diff. There’s just not much further we can go in the arms race.
